This morning we managed a lie-in and eventually left the hotel at about 11:30am. We decided to walk down to the pier, 600m from our hotel according to the sign outside.
After about 10 minutes we stumbled upon a large tent filled with food stalls and the
Obligatory plastic chairs! We grabbed some breakfast (ham and cheese toasties -mmm!) and then walked the short distance to the beach.
At one end it was connected to an island just off shore by a narrow sand bank, which was about a foot underwater - it looked like a good walk so Chris and I set off leaving Laura on the beach with her book and our stuff! We managed to take some good pictures of the island and the beach behind us before Chris turned back to get out of the sun, which had finally made an appearance! I walked on a little further after giving Chris the camera and telling him I'd swim back across the bay. It was then I realised that I still had my vest on and Chris was already half way back….I really needed a swim to cool off, so the vest got tied around my head like a bandana (it looked more like a turban the way I'd tied it - a turbana!) and I was off for a dip!
After relaxing in the sun for a while, Chris headed back to the hotel and Laura and I decided to follow the path along the beach all the way to Aonang. It was a good walk seeing as we've done a lot of lazing about lately! On the way, we discovered some tasty looking foodstalls and couldn't resist so we stopped for some chicken, corn and Chang beer! These were followed by some amazing banana pancakes cooked fresh in front of us by a woman who could clearly do it in her sleep - fantastic! We like how they take their stalls to the roadside attached to their motorbikes, use the bike as a seat behind the stall while they're working, then pack up everything again at the end of the day!
We wandered a little further along the front and spotted a few places that looked promising for our night out later. We caught a tuk tuk back to the hotel to cool down for a few hours, before heading out again with Chris in the evening. We took him straight back to the foodstalls for dinner and some more banana pancakes. There's been a lot of food mentioned in this entry, even by our standards!
Our last stop of the night was a cool beachfront bar called Luna, where we enjoyed a couple of cocktails before heading back to our beds. One of my favourite days in Thailand - must be something to do with all of the food…
