Time to head to Oz! But we'll definitely be back to New Zealand…

After our final morning at the campsite, we drove the short distance to the airport and finally said goodbye to our van (after running on fumes all the way to the airport, fuel light on all the way!). They didn't spot the cracked plate or missing glass (that we broke!) either, so we saved a few quid. We checked the mileage before we gave it back and we travelled 8942km / 5588 miles over the 3 months, not bad!

Our first flight from Christchurch to Sydney was delayed by about half an hour, so we had plenty of time to kill in the airport! Once we arrive din Sydney, we found out we were delayed again on the second flight to Adelaide…more sitting around! We bought a couple of things in the airport and were instantly confused by Australian coins…the $2 coin is the smallest (about as big as our 5p and easy to lose!) and the 50c coin is about as big as your hand…we;;, maybe not!

Finally, we were on our way and well-fed on the planes - lunch on one and dinner on the other! As we landed in Adelaide, we flew over the city and started to get excited about the next part of our adventure!

Soon we were on our way to our hostel in the centre of Adelaide on Hindley Street. First impressions were not great, but we're used to the odd grotty hostel now, and it IS the cheapest in town! In our 12 bed dorm we got chatting to a Dutch girl in the bed next to mine, who'd also arrived in Adelaide today - our first new friend in Oz! We were both knackered from our flight so soon decided to call it a night and get some sleep…welcome to Australia!
