Early alarm call for us today…5:30am felt like the middle of the night! We managed to crawl out of bed and got ourselves to the bus station for 7am. The journey was pretty uneventful; the bus had awful gears and didn't get above 80kph, even on the 110kph motorway and we made an unnecessary 45-minute stop at a petrol station in the middle of nowhere, but that was about it!
We arrived in warm, sunny Port Macquarie at about 1pm and our free pickup to our hostel was waiting for us. We're staying at a place called Ozzie Pozzie Backpackers (good name!) and we splashed out on a double room for two nights. The hostel is really chilled and not too big, with a pool and BBQ - can't complain!
After dropping off our stuff, we headed to Town Beach for the afternoon. It was quite a long walk, but worth it to get in the ocean and cool off! We spent a couple of hours there, then headed back to the hostel via Coles for some healthy food supplies!
Back at Ozzie Pozzie, we cooked a barbecue tea of sausages and salad - very Aussie, we thought! We spent the rest of the night chatting to a few people - a guy from Bishop Auckland who's over here playing cricket with an Aussie guy who used to live in Sweden and another couple from England who were quite posh - the girl's parents' friend is flying from Sydney to Antarctica just for lunch one day next week…as you do! An interesting crowd…
