On the move again…but a long wait first! We checked out of our room just after 10am and our flight wasn't until 5pm… a day sat in the hotel bar for us! And no booze because we can't afford it! Ah well we both got through a lots of our respective books, an Aussie(?) breakfast (fry-up!), a Sanur breakfast (banana pancakes) and a couple of cokes, before we left for the airport at about 2pm.
Our taxi driver tried to get us to agree to pay 95,000Rp, but we knew it would be less, so insisted on the meter. We were right - it cost us 75,000Rp, so we got a saving of about £1.50! Every penny counts now!
After a meal and a look around the shops, we were off on our 3 hour flight to Kuala Lumpur, wondering if Raquel from Coronation Street might be still there modelling when we arrive… she wasn't, but we'll keep a look out while we're here!
We were pretty tired by the time we got off the plane, and were ready for sleep, but we had an hour's bus journey and a train to catch to our hostel! The bus journey was quite interesting - they brought down two TVs and showed us a Malaysian sci-fi / virtual reality type film about a kid who goes between the real world and the game world…anyway, I was engrossed, zombie-style, for most of the journey. Laura, on the other hand, gave up watching after 5 minutes and switched on her Ipod!
Once we were at KL Sentral, we had to board one of their Light Rail trains that whiz all over the city to get us to our hostel. Didn't really see much of KL in the dark, but our first impressions were of a well-organised, busy, crowded modern city. We'll see more tomorrow…
When we finally arrived at our hostel, we both agreed that it was worth the wait - maybe even the best hostel we've stayed in? Very modern, lovely bar, clean rooms and bathrooms - the bedrooms are arranged like the set of Celebrity Squares - everyone gets their own little box to sleep in, complete with reading light and mirror, all stretched on top of each other, with very high ladders to reach the top bunk! The beds are huge - easily double bed size for each person, and the air-con works - will do for us!
Off out into the big city tomorrow
