Our first full day in Sanur, and we decided to head to the other end of the beach from where we were yesterday. On the way, we stopped at a hotel restaurant for breakfast - quite expensive for toast and muesli but they had free wifi so we checked our emails and facebook!
Down at the beach we got a couple of loungers for 40,000rp and settled down for a day in the sun. From where we were, we had a good view of the boats in the bay, which went in and out all day. There was a long strip of Warungs behind us so at lunchtime we moved about a metre to the chairs and table behind our beds for a very cheap lunch! We got Mie Goreng for 10,000rp (less than £1!) each - we love the prices! I also liked how it was only a tiny shed on the beach ran by a couple of guys, but the food was fantastic!
After filling ourselves up, we managed to make it back to the beds(!) and spent the rest of the afternoon sunbathing and swimming. Actually, it was too hot to lie in the sun, so we hid under our umbrella to keep cool. At about 4pm we headed back to our hotel for a couple of hours and enjoyed the air con, which I'd set at 16°c!
In the evening we wanted to visit the night market as we'd heard about the good food there. It's at the opposite end of the beach, so we decided to get a taxi. When we explained where we wanted to go the driver didn't seem too sure, and we were right - he dropped us off only about half way there! It was worth the walk though…
The place was an open square, half of which was filled with carts selling food of all types and the other half was a traditional market selling clothes to the tourists. We had a good wander around the food stalls and eventually found one right in the corner that we liked the look of. I ordered noodle soup and Laura had Nasi Goreng (fried rice with egg) from the woman doing the cooking with her husband. Everything was cooked fresh so our food took a while, but we didn't mind waiting. Lots of locals were also putting orders in, so we knew that we'd made a good choice! The soup was just spicy enough and filled with loads of vegetables, we're definitely getting our five a day here! Both of our meals with water came to 15,000rp - the cheapest meal we've had in Bali, and one of the best! Now to hunt for some dessert…we found a stall selling all kinds of sweet things, none of which we really recognised, so we pointed out a few to the lady and hoped for the best! We ended up getting a banana spring roll, a donut and another nutty-type thing each for the grand total of 4,000rp - about 30p!
Feeling very full, we stopped at a bar for a couple of Bintang before heading back to the hotel and our fridge of a room!
