So here we are on our last night in Philly-(people from here don't call it Philadelphia so neither did we!)
We've both really enjoyed it here-even to go so far as to say we've enjoyed it here the most. Maybe it was because we have come from the hustle and bustle of New York and it is a little more relaxed here.
So when we arrived we checked in and went straight out on a tour ran by the hostel of the Olde City. It was supposed to take about an hour and a half so we thought why not?!?
We were taken round the sights-Liberty Hall etc then down to South Philly and the Italian Market. We went to the place where the orgianal Philly Cheesesteak was sold-Pat's-and had to wait about 40 to get served-the queue was round the block!!They were ok-Bri enjoyed it more than me!! Amy our tour guide then took us to this little cafe run by a French guy called Rene. This guy was a legend!! It was a little quaint coffee shop but then he had an iphone, big mac laptop and all these gadgets!! We were in there for ages and he ended up making us this MASSIVE coffee drink with all kinds in it!It was supposed to be $18 but he gave it to us for us all to share!! So our tour ended up takig about 5 hours!!
Back at the hostel the run a movie night every night from 8pm with free beer so we had a night in watching Anchorman!
So on Monday we set out for the sights again. We took the Liberty Hall tour which was really good-we stood in the same exact room where the Decleration of Independence as signed and here America began! We toured Congress Hall also. We went to Reading Market Terminal whichis a big market with foos stalls and fresh fruit-bag of cherries for 99c - bargain!! We went to the Liberty Bell and then went to the US Mint where all coins are made-THE most boring thing we have done-good job it was free!! We found a bar on the way back to the hostel where it was happy hour and the pints of beer were $1.75!!! Amazing! We then went somewhere else and found $3 margaritas and they were honestly the strongest drink I've ever had! Plus the best hot and honey chicken wings-I know our Faye would have been jealous!! We were thinkin of you while eating them!!
We then went on a ghost tour then back to the hostel for a scary movie and free beer!!
Today (Tuesday) we went to the Eastern State Penetentiary which has ben shut since 1971. We done a tour around it and it was really good-dead spooky! We seen the cell Al Capone was in when he spent 8 months for possession of an illegal firearm. Look at the pictres to see more. We then went to the Philaelphia Museum of Art-or otherwise nown as the Rocky Steps!! We went to Logan Square and dipped our feet in the fountain-it ws so hot!
We set off for Washington tomorrow for 3 days so we'll update in a few days!
Thanks for all your messges too!!
