Hi All!!
Sorry been a while since we updated-wanted to do it the day we left NewYork so we had lots to tell you!!
So we have been back in NewYork since Tuesday (21/7) and literally haven't stopped since we got here!!
We got the train from Boston-which is one of the best ways to travel-the seats are huge and well better then plane seats!! So we found the hostel fine-we're staying on the lower East side this time around. Put our bags in the room (again a 6 person dom but this time we have ensuite bathroom! ). We take the subway to Times Square for a look around and headed to Hard Rock Cafe for our tea-we were starving-we hadn't eaten all day!! We hung around Times Square for a few hours then headed back for a well earned rest!!
Day 2- Today we went on the Staten sland Ferry and seen the Statue of Liberty from a distance. We went Battery Park andseen that they give away tickets so you can go up into the crown of the Statue of Liberty so we planned on going back the next day nice and early to get them. We also visited the world trade centre site which ha changed so much-there is so much development going on there. We also went to Wall Street and the financial district and took a tour around Federal Hall, which is where President Washington was inaugurated to be the 1st president of the USA!! Very Cool!! We had alook around Trinity church which is so surreal being so peaceful in what is probably one of the noisiest cities you will ever go to!!
We went to an Italian restaurant in imes Sq that Brian was dying to go to-got spaghetti and meatballs-but I wasn't converted-Bri ended up bringing home the leftovers!! We then had a nice relaxing night in the hostel talking to people from all over the place. Thats the good thing about staying in hostel too-you meet so many peple and you can talk to anyone as they are all in the same boat as you!! Met a guy from Hungary who spoke like Borat!!
Day 3- we were up nice and early - 7am- and out by 8am so we could get these tickets so that we could go into the crown of the Statue of Liberty (they only give a certain amount away each day for free) but when we got there at 8.30 they had already been given out!! So we got the ferry to Liberty Island and Ellis Island. It was the best thing to do going early in the morning because it wasn't that busy. These 2 islands are amazing-we have some really good pics so make sure you take a look!! We were also planning on walking across the Brooklyn Bridge but it rained so we got the subway across and went to Grimaldi's pizza place-gorgeous pizza!!
Day 4- Today we visited Grand Central Terminal and whispered to each other in the Whispering corner!!! Went to the top of the Empire State Bulding-amazing views. Also went to the Rockefeller Centre. We went to see Harry Potter in Times Sq-loved it!! On the way back to our hostel we went for a drink in this pub and met this couple-Chris and Jessie. He is originall fro Scotland but moved here 6 years ago and she is from New York. They took us this bar called the Crocodile lounge where when you bought a beer you got a free pizza!!! How amazing-and not just a slice- a 9" pizza!!So we didn't need any tea that night!!
Day 5- Today was so hot-walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and admired the views. Visited the UN buildings and were gutted becase there weren't even any flags up!! That was the on thing my Dad wanted me to get a picture of and I let him down!! We then grabbed some lunch and went to central park for a picnic!! There were so many people sunbathing and there was this old fella taping them on his videocamera!!! He moved when he spotted us looking!! We then took a stroll down 5th Avenue and had a look in Tiffany's-if only!!
We're heading to Philadelphia tomorrow (Sunday) so stay tuned folks!!
Ps Thanks for all of the comments you've been sending us-love you all!!!! xxxxxxx
