So we landed in Vegas on Monday 17/8. We flew over the Grand Canyon in the plane on our wa into Vegas (see the photos). We arrived at our hotel (the Hard Rock) and realized we had landed in luxury!! The beds are the most comfy we have ever been in!! We set off to explore the hotel and had a few margaritas-you can see the theme here!! We then had the best night sleep we’d had since we’ve been away!!
The next day we set off to explore The Strip. We went in all of the major hotels, Caesars Palace, The Bellagio, Planet Hollywood, The Venetian, The Mirage, The Wynn and some others! Caesars Palace was our favourite though-the shopping centre in there was amazing!! Also, ode to my Dad we went to the Cheesecake Factory in Caesars and got a chocolate peanut butter cookie dough!! Filthy! (see the picture!!) We then come back to our hotel and had some sushi for tea which was delish!!
The next day we set out for the strip again (after having another good nights sleep!!). This time we went in the other direction-we explored New York New York, The Excalibur, The Luxor and Mandalay Bay. We also booked a trip to the Grand Canyon. We ventured back to Caesars to use the wondered facilities in the apple mac shop, we spent about an hour in there booking flights and accomodation. We're on a budget so what do you expect if they offer free internet!! After we went to downtown Las Vegas to see the Fremont experience which basically is a light show shown on a cover over the street. It does a light show to music and the show that we seen was to Jimmy Hendrix songs. The bus took forever getting back to the strip and we had to get back for the shuttle so we had to basically run to catch it!!
Thursday we spent the morning getting ready to go on the helicopter tour. We got a really good deal for it, we got upgraded to the sunset flight instead of the one in the afternoon and probably saved around $200! We got picked up from the hotel at 4.30pm in the most amazing bus! They had big leather armchairs and had blacked out windows! Very nice!! It was so hot going on the trip-110 degrees F!1 We arrived at Boulder City airport and had to be weighed so they could distribute the weight evenly due to the centre of gravity. It was with a company called Serenity and they were such a good company-we’d recommend it to anyone! There were 6 of us on the tour, me, Brian and 4 French people who were really nice. We were then lead out to the helicopter in single file and had to wave at the camera on the helicopter as they were making a video of the trip. Me and Brian were sat in the front!! I was sitting next to the pilot Dave and Brian was next to the window. This was the most amazing thing that we have done so far. We flew into the canyon for about 35 minutes then we landed and had a bite to eat and a glass of wine (for Laura) and a glass of Champagne (for Brian) for about an hour. The views were amazing and it was so peaceful there, Brian could even hear the bubbles in his Champagne (no joke!). I have never been somewhere so quite before and it certainly made a change from being in the noisy hotel and strip. We then had to leave at 7pm prompt as the sun was about to set. We started flying back and seen the sun setting over the canyon. The pictures that we have put on do not do it justice-it is the most beautiful thing we have ever seen. We then got to see a view of the Strip all lit up and that looked really good. We then landed and were taken back to the hotel in the same bus.
So the next stop is San Francisco so we will update you in a few days before we head off on our trips of the National Parks.
Take a look at the pictures-I’ve split them into Las Vegas and Grand Canyon as there are so many!!!
