So thisis the blog for San Fran and LA!
We actually had 2 stays in San Fran, 6 nights in total with the Green Tortoise trips dividing them. Our 1st stay we arrived really early due to our flight from Las Vegas being at 7am!! We dumped our bags in the hostel and then set off to explore San Fran. It was so refreshing having to wear a jacket as it was windy! Having come from Vegas, this weather was more like being back home in England! Lovely! So we walked around for a bit and then come back to the hostel to get ready for a night out organized by the hostel. We got dolled up and met the other people in reception and got talking to 4 Australian people, a couple and 2 of their friends. We got taken to this place called ‘The Cellar’ and it was supposed to be an 80’s night, although not much 80’s music was played!! We had a really goodnight, Brian got pictures taken with random people as usual, he was even given a business card by one fella-god knows what he was saying to him!! The drinks were poured with no measurer so who knows how much alcohol was in each drink! We eventually get back to the hostel after Brian stopping for a burger, I couldn’t even remember getting back! It was only at 9am the next morning that I remembered we had signed up to do a walking tour of the city at 10am! To say I felt rough was an understatement! I got around most of the tour fine and then towards the end I started feeling ill-I wasn’t sick but I’m sure I looked green!! We had a walk around Fisherman’s wharf and pier 39, which is basically a real tourist spot-i.e. they rip you off! We had sushi for lunch and then I felt much better! We watched movies in the hostel as they had a proper cinema room with the proper seats and everything! The next day we didn’t really do much-watched more movies and got free popcorn!! We had to check out the following morning, so had a wander around and got ready to leave for our Yosemite trip.
When we got back to San Fran after being on the Northern Pioneer Trip we had booked back into the same hostel so we knew what we were getting. We done ALL of our washing and got dressed and headed out for a Chinese and a bottle of wine! We had an early night and slept for literally 11 hours in a lovely bed (well lovely compared to the bus!). The next day we went down to Fisherman’s Wharf and met up with some of the people off the trip-David, Janette, Cameron and Laura. We done lunch and me and Brian got clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl-it was gorgeous! We had a walk around but I was struggling on my damaged leg from the mountain incident! We hung around the hostel and had another deserved early night!! The next day we got up bright and early and set off to hire us a couple of bikes. We set off for the Golden Gate Bridge and we definitely left at the right time as there were no clouds around so got all of our pictures done! It was so nice to be riding around on a bike-we felt like kids again! We rode to the other side of the bridge and then came back, riding around the piers looking at the big boats! The next day we got a shuttle bus to LA, to our hostel in Hollywood. It took about 7 hours to get there but we both had a good book to read so it was ok (we are reading the Twilight series-really good!). We arrived in the hostel and met one of the lads who had been on our trip-Gareth. We went to the comedy night in the hostel and had a few drinks with him there. The next day was our only full day in LA so we got up early and headed out. We walked down the Walk of Fame and to the Kodak Theatre and Man’s Chinese Theatre (where they hold the premieres for movies). We seen all of the stars on the floor and seen where celebs had put their hand and feet marks in cement! We then walked and seen the Hollywood sign, although it was very far away! The camera zoom really pulled through for us!! We were then out of things to do-all of the tours were too expensive and to be honest sounded rubbish! “Come and see where the stars live”, one of them even advertised to show us where Jennifer Aniston USED to live! Nah! So we went for some lunch and then come back to the hostel for a hour and then went to the cinema. We went to see ‘Inglorious Basterds’ with Brad Pitt. It was really funny! And so here we are, waiting for the bus to pick us up to take us to the airport and then off to Hawaii this afternoon! San Fran and LA pictures are in the same album labeled LA so take a look!
