OK, woke up at 5.30am to the end of monks chanting. i cannot even describe the sheer volume of it! ran to the moth infested, giant uber daddy longlegs and cockcroach bathroom for an immense diahreeah session. nice.
Got bitten by mosiees again. Evil! was under the damn net all night..get up and spritz the deet all over.. squat doen for the loo and they bite the only place i havnt sprayed with bug spray. not happy.
6.00am met dominique (french canadian) for some early morning photography. spent an hour following the monks in orange robes - they are all bald headed clones..but so different at the same time. they're soooo camera shy! finally i found one who was very funny and took a photograph of me and the old monk, who didnt seem to have a choice in the matter. yea me! The monestery is so peaceful, courtyards, prayer rooms..i felt very privileged to stay their. photographed a monk in his one-sie underwear too. hehe
7.00am patrick returned with our washing and fried egg sandwhich..with ketchup and a coffee for all 14 members of our group. bless that man. his family mustve been washing our skanky clothes all night! patrick is a legend. his family is currently in hiding because of the 1child only rule. he said that before the laws change, if the goverment find out your pregnant again.. men would come to your house and beat u and your pregnant wife, take everything u own from ur house and leave u with nothing...and i expect a miscarried wife. it was so awful listening to it. if you hide a child until they are 4, then they cant do anything to you after that. he was so proud of them, showng photos ect. aww.
7.30am we then travelled by bus up Mount Emei. it was an incredibly bumpy ride - even 3 locals threw up on the bus! eew. found myself doodling on the way up, descibing what i saw..
'Green mist, magenta bright, clouds descend and the forest takes us'
it was a lovley 7degrees at the start of our trek. 2.5 miles each way, 500 feet up. It took us around 2 and half hour to complete the round trip. as usual me and abbi were at the back..chilling..taking our time. (dying and out of breath) nicole and the group had stomped on ahead having plenty of time at the top to look in awe at the golden summit.
Mount Emei is the most tranquil of places. I kept stopping, really taking it in. breathing in the mist and listening to silence. it was eery but peaceful. The mist engulfed everything.
5 times on the way up we had our photo taken with complete strangers. chinese people just approach you for a photograph with them. its really weird. who knows how many photo albums we are going to appear in as western attractions.
3.00pm some of us walked to see the wild monkeys!! it was soo crazy. baby monkeys trying to steal your belongings. they were adorable. the old grumpy bearded ones were funny. some of the chinease people are completley dumb- they were through bags of food at the monkey. hitting them in the face- proked much? idiots deserve to be eaten alive by monkey babys.
im currently acheing from all the walking. calves are killing but the excersise is doing us good- have lost 12llb on this trip! weve only been gone two weeks. have descided to treat ourselves by going on a mcdonalds mission tomorrow. we are sick of chinese food.
