We left Khao Sok in the morning and took a bus to Krabi. Everyone was so excited to finally be by the sea! It really is gorgeous here and the day we arrived was the hottest it has been since we arrived in Thailand. We didn't arrive until about midday so after we had settled into the room we just hit the beach. The hotel was quite nice and only a few minutes walk to the beach. It did have the craziest stairs I've ever seen though. Everyone was a different height and width, and I nearly tripped and fell a few times with my backpack on. I tried my best to sunbathe when we finally hit the sand as it was my first real chance to get a tan but it was just too hot. I could only last about 15 minutes before I had to get in the water. Even that didn't help as the sea was just like a hot bath. It was really nice though, although the saltiest sea I've ever been in. The boys went a bought a ball so that kept us amused for a while. It was nice to just chill out and admire the scenery too. The sea was so blue and clear, and the sand was just pure white. I thought to myself that this was more like it!
That evening we all went for a meal. Although I do like Thai food my apetite was still a bit funny from being ill. I hadn't had pasta since we came away so I just had to order the spagetti carbonara! The meal was nice and everyone enjoyed it but the worst possible thing happened - it rained! When it rains here it really does pour and the road was like a river; literally! We sat in the restaurant waiting for it to die off, but we could see there was't really much hope of that. It was quite funny running to the pub through it though as everyone got soaked. I had to jump on Justin's back to get across the 'river.' A couple of girls lost their flip flops in the stream of rain and had to go and buy new pairs.
The next day we just decided to chill out, so we had a look around the markets and bought a few bits and pieces. There's no where near as much to choose from here though as the other markets we have visited. My bartering skills have improved though and I got some could bargains. Up to then I had been rubbish and had to get Justin to do it all, so I don't know what came over me. After that we went for a massage which was really enjoyable this time. I decided to stick to an oil massage rather than a Thai one, so I didn't have anyone walking on my back this time. It was really relaxing, but a bit strange as the room was full of people. Before it had been private with just the two of us, but here the beds were laid out in rows and there were quite a few other people in there. It was very cheap though, even by Thai standards, so I can't complain. Unfortunatley when we were eating lunch it started to hammer it down with rain again. We weren't even dry sitting at our table it was that bad, so we just headed back to the hotel.
That night we went to the Irish pub for dinner (there are three irish girls in our group so they felt right at home). Again I had to pass on Thai food and had steak pie and mash potateo. I must admit it was nice to be eating food from back home again. That really has been the only thing I've missed, apart formt he people. As the evening went on it turned into a bit of a drinking session and Justin started showing off his moves despite the lack of danceflorr and music! The sambuca shots Johann kept buying everyone didn't help at all, and then the guys started on the sambuca. By the end of the night Justin was dancing around a snooker cue and trying to put mustard in everyone's drinks. I went back to the hotel with the rest of the girls that were left, but he came back about 2 hours later at 4 in the morning. He had been to Burger King, and I was just annoyed he didn't bring me one back!
The next day (today as I'm writing) we had to get up early to catch the boast for the tour around the Phi Phi islands. This really has been one of my best days and tours we have done so far. We took a speadboat out to sea and stopped off at a few different islands. The first we stopped at was Bamboo Island and it was beautiful. I have never seen sea that turquoise and in places the sand was like icing sugar. We went in the sea for a bit and then headed off. We were given masks and tried to do a bit of snorkeling there, but there wasn't really much to sea under the water. After that we stopped at Maya bay. This was where they filmed the film "The Beach', and it did look just like paradise. We snorkeled outside the bay for a bit and it was so much fun. There were hundreds of smaller fish at the surface, then the reef below. After that we moved onto the beach which was really nice too, but very busy compared to the others which was a shame. Also one of the girls was sea sick which spoiled it alot for her.
We stopped at one of the main island, Phi Phi Don, for lunch and it was a lot busier and commercialised. The boast couldn't come close to the island as the water was so shallow so we had to walk, but there were loads of rocks and coral in the water and I kept stubbing my feet. That wasn't much fun. Lunch was good, and it was nice to get out of the sun for a bit and have a walk around. This island is more of a holiday destination really, with hotels and resorts. By now it was so hot and it was hard to walk to catch the boat. We had to go to another beach as the water was so low. We didn't stop at any more beaches but we went to two more good places for snorkeling. The first was near a bay like before, but the coral was higher so you could see more fish at the bottom amongst the reef. There were alos caves you could swim into. Everyone kept picking on me and throwing bread to the fish where I was so they swarmed me every time I turned around. It was really weird and I screamed a bit! You could hear it out of the top of my snorkel, which made everyone want to do it more. After that we stopped and snorkled right in the middle of the sea. This really was the best place and I saw so many different fish, many which I recognised from wildlife shows. It was really colourful and I loved it. But then everyone started throwing food at me again and this time the fish started to bite me, which wasn't nice, so I got out.
This is our last day in Thailand and early in the morning we are leaving for Malaysia; first stop being Penang. I really enjoyed Thailand and hopefully Malaysia will be just as good. We are off out again. Tonight we are going out for an all-you-can eat BBQ, which sounds really nice so I'm looking forward to that!
