When we arrived back in Bangkok after the second overnight train journey we just had a chilled out day before we meet our new group. I still felt a bit sick when I was on the train and wasn't up to doing much. I tried to eat something too, but that didn't really help, it just made me feel even more sick. I have completely lost my appetite since we have been in Thailand, and that's so unlike me there must be something wrong. There was a party in the dining carriage though with a crazy Thai man dancing on the tables though so that was fun!! We just had a walk around Khao San Road, and sat and had a drink. It was so hot that we needed to keep stopping. After that I tried to catch up on some sleep as I hadn't slept well on the train, but just ended up watching a film in the room.
The next day we met the group for the southern Thailand and Malaysia part of the trip and our new guide. See you later Pun-Pun!! Everyone was so nice straight from when we met them, and Johan the guide was great too. He was really friendly and talkative. It made a change from Pun Pun, as although he was very funny it's part of Thai nature to be a bit more reserved and quiet I think. It's a much bigger group - 16 people all together! Most people were from England, but there were three Irish girls, a couple from South Africa who had been living in England, a girl from Austalia who lived in England and an older couple from Canada. I could tell that I wouldn't really get on with them straight away as they wre typically brash and quite rude. Everyone else thought the same, but at least it gave us something to talk about. There were four couples including us in the group which was good. We all went out for dinner that night at a Thai restaurant but as we were leaving to go to a bar disaster struck!! I started to fell really ill so suddenly, and I can't remember the last time I felt that bad it was truly awful.
There's not that much to write for the next few days as I was so ill. I was supposed to go to the floating market on our last day in Bangkok so I was gutted. I had also planned to do most of my shopping on the last day which turned out to be a mistke as I couldn't go. I had to lie on chair in the lobby all day until it was time to leave. All I wanted to do was go to bed, although I never once thought that I wanted to go which was good. We took the last overnight train to Suritani, and then a songthaew to Khao Sok. The train was awful, even worse than before. I was ill all night and couldn't sleep, and was up and down to the toilet all night. We stayed in our own private bungalows in Khao Sok scattered around the gardens at the resort, and it was gorgeous, but I spent the day in bed.... again. I had to do it as I knew that if I pushed myself too hard I would feel worse for it in the end. Justin went tubing though so he had lots of fun. I managed to out with the others for dinner and started to feel better. The restaurant was all in the open and was really nice, although I didn't manage to eat anything much. It was the first time I saw bats too, as they kep dive bombing at our heads. One of the girls kept getting harrassed by the waiter Tee, which kept everyone else amused. We stayed for some drinks, and then some of the others went to a bar but I didn't want to push myself so I felt better the next day.
The last full day there I woke up feeling loads better and it was such a relief. I couldn't have handled being that ill any more. We went on a lake tour with some of the group and I had such an amazing day! It was one of the high-lights of the trip so far. After the car journey we took a Thai long-boat across the lake. The scenery so was so unbelievable like you weren't really there, and I couldn't believe how big it actually was - ginormous! I couldn't see how the guide knew his way around a lake that size and could remeber where he was going. We carried on until we got to a string of bunglows that floated acroos the lake. They were all balanced on a few logs and I couldn't see how they didn't just drift away. We went kayaking for a bit first and then had lunch which was layed on for us. It was really nice, and I managed to eat quite a bit of fish. Johann didn't appreciate it when I pointed out to everyone he was eating a fish eye though. He kept a long finger nail especially! Justin and I tried it in a double kayak but we kept getting on each other's nerves so much. I was getting wound up because he kept hitting me and my paddle with his and kept wobbling it so I felt like I was going to fall in. Also, he could not keep in time with me at all. After lunch we just chilled out outside the bungalows on the couple of boards we walked on across the water. Some others went for a short trek, but I had had enough of that by that stage. It was fun just sitting there and relaxing though, and getting to know each other a bit better.
That evening we all went for dinner at the Rasta Bar, and had a BBQ and some drinks. It was a really good night, but my bum hurt by the end of the night after sitting on the floor. It was a nice atmosphere though and they had a fire goin in the middle of the bar, which was in the open air. I actually ate a whole meal for the first time in five days which was an achievement. I think eveyone was excited to eat potatos as you don't really get them much in Thai food, especially the Irish girls. That morning we had to be up early to catch the beach to Krabi. The beach at last.... I couldn't wait!!
