The second place we visited on our trip up the coast was Coffs Harbour. We didn't arrive there until late in the afternoon so we didn't do much that night. We didn't really do much the whole time we were there to be honest as we thought we would just chill out for a couple of days. We went out to eat that night at the Hog's Breath Cafe for a steak dinner, then just relaxed at the hostel. The hostel was nice really; quite small but clean and it was only a short walk to the beach. We got up quite early the next morning and went for some breakfast. We needed the energy because after that we walked down to the jetty area and the beach, then we climbed Muttonbird island, which is just off the coast. There isn't really anything up there but it gives really good views of the town and the coast. Coffs Harbour was really pretty actually and apparantly it is a good place to go diving. The weather wasn't really up to sunbathing on the beach so we walked around the Sunday market, and then walked up to the cartoon museum that Justin wanted to visit. I'm not really into that myself but it was something to do, however after spending ages trying to find it we found out it wasn't opened on sundays! As we were out we went for a food shop then just back to the hostel to chill out. We have decided we are cooking ourselves from now on. We were going to go down to the pub but were so tired after walking for hours all day that we thought we would leave the partying until Byron Bay. It has a reputation for beng a party town anyway. We stayed in and watched some films, and our programs; 'The Biggest Loser' and 'So you think you can dance!' We love them! Well Claire and I do anyway.
We were checking out the next day so we had to get up fairly early but we didn't leave Coff's Harbour until late afternoon so we had all day there. We decided to go to the Big Banana, which is a sort of landmark in the area but also has an ice skating rink. We thought that would be a fun way to pass the time. We caught the bus from the hostel to the shopping plaza, but then we had to walk up the Pacific highway from there. It was a complete mission because we didn't know where the hell we were going and then we had to walk for ages up something called 'Big Hill'. Unsurprisingly it was just a massive, big hill. When we arrived all that was there was a fairly big banana and nothing else. Talk about disaponting! To make matters worse the ice skating rink was shut; we weren't having much luck that weekend. We thought we might as well do someting bananery as we were there so Claire got a frozen banana lolly and we got a banana split. We saw some girls we met in Port Macquarie there too, who were equally underwelmed. After walking down the big hill, which was much easier, we went back to the hostel to catch the bus to Byron Bay. We were all really excited as everyone one loves Byron!
