Prague
So we begin the first stop of our European tour with a stop off in Prague. We arrived Monday afternoon following a quick flight from Bristol. After getting to the very pink hotel we headed out for a look around the city. We were struck by the beauty of the architecture which is something that I think will become common as we travel through the region. Wenceslas Square was nearby and we wandered through taking in the sights and sounds on the way to the Charles Bridge. There is a definite cafe culture in the city although coffee is often replaced by the Czech’s wide range of beers! The rest of the day was spent idly meandering through the cobbled streets of the old town before we had a pizza based meal to finish of the day.
The next morning we made the most of the buffet breakfast (by using it to make lunch!) before beginning a walking tour of the city. We visited Prague Castle where we saw the changing of the guards. Unfortunately while we there we got thoroughly soaked by a thunder storm and spent half an hour under an archway in the castle getting cover! Luckily there were with lots of young Dutch and German football fans chanting football songs for entertainment! We also travelled on a funicular up to a lookout point and climbed an Eiffel tower replica that allowed us spectacular views across the city.
In the evening we picked up a couple of filled pittas for dinner and wandered through the old town square where there was a large screen for the football and a great atmosphere. We sampled a few Czech beers and walked to the Charles Bridge to photograph the Castle at night which was stunning.
