Vienna & Salzburg
We left Prague on Wednesday 7th July and took a bus to Vienna. The journey was good and we watched 'Madagascar' and 'Hellboy 2' onboard (an interesting yet entertaining choice). Got to our hotel in Vienna and then headed out for a look around. Once again we enjoyed the grand buildings on a walking tour of the city and felt slightly underdressed amongst the designer shops and grand boulevards. We went into St Stephen's Cathedral and also watched a bit of jazz at the Vienna Jazz Festival. For food we bought a couple of massive slices of Pizza and then later had cake, beer and an Aperol Spritzer with all the posh folk!
The next day we boarded a train to Salzburg. The journey took about 3hrs and the alpine scenery was extremely beautiful. On arrival we booked into our hostel before exploring. The temperature was pushing 30°C but in the city felt a lot hotter. Laura spotted one or two 'Sound Of Music' locations which frankly meant nothing to me. After a wander we walked up to the fortress to look across the city. On the Friday we took a bus out to Lake Fuschl and spent the day lazing by the water. Laura did a bit of Maria-inspired frolicking in a field and I got a little bit sunburnt. That night we watched the Sound of Music. It was amazing! In the morning the temperature was up to 35°C. We walked a lot. Guided by our "Locations of the Sound of Music" map we traced the von Trapp's footsteps around the city. It was sweaty! I felt sick! (At this point Laura would like to add that Salzburg was extremely pretty with a beautiful river, castle and mountains in the distance.)
After many photos we returned to the hostel, picked up our things, went to the train station and boarded the 4.30 train to Lake Bled, Slovenia.
