The fireworks were great!
We hanged around in the house where we were staying and around nine we left into the French quarter. We walked around, looked at the live music and ended up in a small bar with live music and some locals. Half past eleven we walked up to Jackson square where 'it' all happened. Steffen and Jessica (the Germans) and I walked up to the dike and had a great view over the Mississippi. The firework looked really good. Impressed by the fireworks, so many people and the whole surrounding area we drunk a coffee at café du monde a well known place where we didn't found the time for during the day. We planned to walk back just to drop the camera's but on our way we noticed that there were already so many drunk people, discussions and small fights everywhere in the town that we decided to stay in the house. Apparently we where not the only one from our group because short after midnight most of us where back in the house where we celebrated the new year on our own way. The next morning we drove further to the west in the direction of San Antonio. Half along the way we stayed over on a campsite in a wooden cabin (basic but comfortable). We went out dinner to a buffet restaurant which was pretty good and we drove further again the next morning. We arrived around three o clock in San Antonio where we stayed until seven. We were dropped of at the Alamo but I already visited so many historical museums and other historical places last days that I didn't spend a lot time over there. So shortly after we were dropped of I went with a few others into San Antonio. Wauw! San Antonio has a city centre like all other medium sized cities except that San Antonio also has a whole city under the regular streets named the riverwalk. The riverwalk is basicly a small river with small streets on both sides and there are many bridges but also bars and restaurants along the whole way. And I may not forget to mention those small tourist boots everywhere on the river. Then they had Christmas lights everywhere, which they probably will remove at this moment because they will also dredge the river. This happens only one time in the year but unfortunately we need to move on. However it was a beautiful place where I never heard much about before but really worth visiting! Again we were staying in a cabin and to get used to camping we already cooked a meal outsight. I love camping!
So anyway I'll end with a short notice. Don't worry if you are not hearing from me in a short time… Finally we are going camping! Really camping what means surely no internet and probably most of the time no (proper) shower. But it means also hot springs, white sands, the old west, horseback riding and meeting great people in Big Bend National Park, Alamogordo, Tombstone, Monument Valley and ending up in Grand Canyon! Bye bye for now!
