This morning was spent visiting Eric (Beryl's father), and Beryl popped into the bakery to get a teacake for the occasion, which was yummy. Beryl told him that it was Heidi's first day of preschool, and Eric asked if Louise was OK about it as he had forgotten whose little girl Heidi was. Beryl kept pushing him into remembering, and he tried escaping with the excuse of going to the toilet. He's doing pretty well though given that he's 94!
We met back up with Ian, who had visited his mum, at the house, ready to leave at 12 to go and collect Alice and her belongings from the airport. Beryl and Ian very kindly dropped us off into the CBD, and took Alice's bags back to their house, so that I could spend more time showing Alice around. I took her for a walk along the bridge (which I hadn't done already), and then back to the old pub with all the posters about the first fleet. I had never played on the pokies machines before, and since it was my last day in Australia, I felt I should before I left. I won a couple of time, although overall lost, and I hadn't realised how little skill you needed to play (all you do is select the number of lines and the amount you want to bet on each line).
Along the way to the opera house, we walked past a woman drinking a cocktail out of a jam jar in a harbour side restaurant. After a joke me and my Uni friend Mel had about jam jar cocktails, I had wanted to go for one in Cocomangas in Byron Bay, but it had shut by the time we got back, so me and Alice decided to have a 'leaving Australia Mojito' each.
I took Alice on the bus to Bondi, and then we went to find somewhere to have some food. Because we were so hungry, we were being a bit indecisive, but I was very happy in our choice of Laurie's Veggie Restaurant. Alice had the nachos, and I brought a medium bowl where you could choose to fill up with a combination of the salads and hot dishes. I had Cajun tofu salad (sweet corn, tofu, shallots, Cajun seasoning, carrots), Coleslaw (bit disappointing), basil quinoa salad and chilli beans- all for $9! I couldn't resist a bowl of the apple and banana crumble afterwards.
We spent the remaining time before having to head back into town to catch the last bus back to French's Forest, sat on the beach, watching the evening happenings.
