We arrived in Melbourne in the afternoon and got the sky bus to the city centre. We then took a cab to our hostel (habitat hostel HQ). We checked into our room and Emma joined us a bit later, we met a really nice girl in our room called Miriam and also another lovely girl who she had met called Amy, we got to know them for quite a while and then we had an early night as we were all so tired!
We were staying in St Kilda which was just outside of Mebourne city centre so on Friday we hit the beach. It was a hot day and even though we had applied lots of suncream we all got burnt (me and Sophie the worst though!). On the beach we met a man walking along with a massive dog who was so lovely and fluffy! He told us about things to do in Melbourne and said we should visit Phillip island to see the Penguins which was something we hadn't heard of! In the evening we headed to a free BBQ that was held on a rooftop bar and had a few drinks as well.
On the Saturday we headed into Melbourne city centre and went on the 3 hour free city walking tour. It was really good and learnt a lot about the history of Melbourne as well as the up and coming places to go. As well as the city tour we also visited the Shine of Remembrance, Royal Botanic gardens, Federation Square and ate lunch at a South American food market. In the evening we went on a night out with the girls we had met in the hostel to chapel street in St Kilda, we went to a club called Attik which played really good music!
On Sunday we headed into St Kilda to sort out a camper van as we ideally wanted to start the Great Ocean road on Monday but when we got there we realised we had left it a bit late. The quickest we could get a camper van was on Wednesday so we booked that in. It was myself, Sophie, Emma and the girl we had just met Amy that were off to do the Great Ocean Road. After booking we headed into Melbourne as we were going to do the big slip and slide but when we got there it was much smaller than expected so we decided not to and spent the afternoon chilling on the riverbank. In the evening we went back to the hostel and cooked our own dinner.
On Monday we headed into Melbourne again to walk around the centre and see more of the city, in the evening we chilled at the hostel and went down to the common room to watch the open mic night. One of the workers at the hostel had a great voice!
On Tuesday we spent the day at the beach again as it was hot and in the evening we got the tram into Melbourne vans went up the Eureka Sky Tower where the views over the whole of Melbourne were incredible! After this we had dinner along the river to celebrate our last night.
On Wednesday morning we checked out of the hostel and went to pick up our camper van, we were ready to hit the road!
