After hiring our wicked camper van which was so cool! we headed south of melbourne to Phillip island. We got there in around 2 hours and first visited the information centre to get tips on what to do. It was around 40 degrees so it made walking around very tiring!
We first visited an information centre to find out what things there were to do on the island. We bought our tickets for the penguin parade that evening which was highly recommended. Our first stop was the koala conservation centre where we got to see koalas in the trees and took some good photos! After that we continued driving round the island and stopped at a surf beach where we went swimming in the sea. It was so hot, around 40 degrees and the waves were so strong but it was so much fun!
After the beach we went to find a campsite for the night and then had an earlyish dinner along the seafront. After dinner we headed to the other side of the island to watch the penguin parade. It was amazing! At around 9pm (sunset) tiny Penguins make their way out of the sea up to their enclosures. They wait for nightfall so that they don't get attached by any birds. It was amazing to watch them run across the beach in groups and then we walked along the boardwalk and saw them going into their enclosures for the night. We spoke to the man who worked there and he said there is around 32,000 in the whole colony! After that we headed back to the campsite and attempted to put up the tent that was on top of our van! It took a while and involved Sophie falling off the van but we got there in the end!
