So I left the UK on the 2nd January to catch a flight to Sydney. Sophie and I were lucky enough to have staff tickets with British Airways so only had to pay the tax for the flights! This did mean we nearly didn't get on and had to accept jump seats (the fold down seats that the crew sit on for take off and landing) but luckily when we got on board there were two seats available for us. We had a stopover in Singapore for a couple of hours and then on to Sydney.
We arrived in Sydney on the 4th Jan at 6.30am, we took the train from the airport to central station and our hostel was just across the road. As it was so early we were unable to check in but were able to leave our bags whilst we went on a free city tour. The tour lasted for 3 hours and we walked around seeing all the main parts of Sydney like the opera house, Sydney harbour bridge, darling harbour etc. It was about 2pm when we could finally check in and we had been upgraded to a 4 bed dorm.
We met two girls on the walking tour and arranged to go out with them in the evening. We pre drank at the hostel and went to the club that is situated just below the hostel called side bar. Sophie's friend from uni who is also in Sydney came for the night out too.
On the Tuesday it was raining so we decided to go to wildlife with the girls that we had met the day before. It was an indoor zoo where we were able to see lots of animals including kangaroos and koalas. We arranged to meet the girls for dinner but the jet lag had caught up with us by that point so what was supposed to be an hour nap turned into a 5 hour nap and we woke up at 11pm! We went down to get some water and then straight back to bed again!
On Wednesday it was still raining! We tried to extend our stay at wake up hostel but it was fully booked so we had to check into a hostel near by for one night called world square. We went out for a Chinese meal for lunch, which didn't go down to well with our stomachs, and then went to an indoor trampoline park. Probably wasn't the best combination but was fun! We went out again to the same club again in the evening with the same girls we had met previously!
On Thursday we decided to leave the rain and caught a flight to Melbourne to meet our friend Emma.
