24/6/2010 Today we took the local bus to Lindos to stay the night and return to Rhodes at our leisure the next day. We had accommodation booked but when we arrived at this extremely busy crowded small town no one knew where our accommodation was! The tourist office had had their phone disconnected (they had not paid there bill) the public phones only take cards (Aus $7 seem a bit of a waste for one local call), however we eventually enquire at a travel agency and she phones for us - they are all so kind, the owner will meet us at the bus stop, problem solved! No! When he arrives he tells us we booked for last night and he has no accommodation for tonight! How could we make such a mistake?? Any way the travel agent gets us some good accommodation so all is well and we are able to leave one back pack there and go to the beach.
The beach is quite pleasant with sand, but rock in the water so we do the "invalid walk" into the water and have some good swims. Quite a few bad sights -very overweight people, women still wearing bikinis at 60+ years and 150 kilos, topless with falsies or nothing, as well as a group of English women in their 50's having a hen's party (some droopy boobs) half in the water amongst all the others trying to have a quiet time under their hire umbrellas. We hired an umbrella and two sunbeds in a slightly quieter spot but still within the uniformed rows. Late in the afternoon we picked up our gear and went to our accommodation via a new small resort frequented by Brits and Germans, all their food and grog brands are available, might as well stay at home. I asked for a Greek coffee could not be done, settled for a double espresso and they charged double the price. That night we walked back to town and chose a restaurant with a rooftop dining area and Di allowed me to have octopus for the first time, served warm with balsamic vinegar -it was great Di loved it!!We now will be able to have it again pity we have only three days left.
