GLASGOW 2
Day 132
Friday Dec11
First things first today was breakfast with Vanessa. We went via a few potential places that didn’t seem any good and ended up at more amore. The place we were at last night. Here I had a traditional Scottish Breakfast. Just like an English breakfast with the addition of a potato crepe and Haggis. Haggis is pretty much just the really bad parts form a sheep minced up with a heap of spices, stuffed back into the stomach and baked. I loved it.
Next was a guided tour around the Uni where Vanessa is studying. It’s really nice here, a few hundred years old and really beautiful. It was freezing however so we soon returned to Jillians.
Here I spent the afternoon just relaxing with the girls and watched a movie. Then I needed to get ready for the night a head. So I showered and changed into kilt1530 (Dec16)
Friday night was so much fun. It was one of the best nights I’ve had since I left. So, so much fun.
Day 133
Saturday Dec12
1710 (14Dec)
I woke yesterday at 9. I don’t think Andrew’s sleeping was very restful though. He was snoring furiously.
Come 1100 I thought I was going to have to wake Andrew. He was working at 1200. But luckily he managed to wake up. And got his stuff together. I walked him out. I was just wearing boxer shorts it was freezing so I went back inside and got back into my sleeping bag until 1230 (15Dec)
From here I walked back into town. I was on an absolute high. The amount of fun I’ve been having on this trip is absolutely ludicrous. And I stuck my headphones in and bounced all the way through town taking a few photo’s of the few things in the city centre photographical.
One of the funniest things is a statue they have of their first minister. He is the geekiest dorkiest looking person I’ve ever seen. Maybe an elaborate statue of him wasn’t the best idea. Nevertheless every one was out Christmas shopping and even after my ipod went flat it was still great walking through town soaking it all up.
Eventually I got back to Jillian’s. I had 2 hours, I hoped to go for a run write in my diary and pack. I got none of these done, wasting my time on You tube. At 1620 I realized that I had 40 minutes to pack and get into town where I was meeting Michael, my host for the night. I stuffed all my stuff into my bag and stepped out the door, funning a little late, I high tailed in. It probably wouldn’t matter if I was late but I hate keeping people waiting.
Michaels another one of those guys you cant judge till you meet him. His email’s were really short and straight to the point. I wasn’t sure if he was just really busy or just didn’t really give a crap.
But he’s a really cool guy. First time I met him, at the bar where he works, his first response was “Hey, It’s great to finally meet you”. He finished his shift soon after and we left to head back to his. At first he was really excited about having the night off work to catch up on some homework, he’s studying psych at Glasgow uni. But we hit it off, both being super cool duded. And by the time we were home the plan was to do homework for a couple of hours and then to go out and paint the town red.
1106 (17Dec)
Back at Michaels he dashed straight away to the toilet one of his housemates a Dutch guy called Yukon appeared from no where and I had a chat with him. He was pretty cool. They’d actually met on couch surfing.
From there Michael wanted to do some homework and I was super keen to catch up on my diary. Which evidently didn’t happen. So I settled in with it.
Soon after Michaell came out and announced some food was in order. He said he loved cooking and I wasn’t argueing. He said he’d whip up a couple of pizzas so I went into the kitchen and helped him with that. That was untill the smell of the onion caused a hasty retreat from the kitchen.
Not long after he called me in. there was only one grilled tray in his oven and he had 2 pizzas. “Do you reckon we can put one on the bottom” thinking he was talking about Hygein I suggested with some tin foil down, why not. So we put some foil down and after the two of us juggled the pizza onto the tin foil we put it in to cook.
Bad idea. 15 minutes later Michael went into the Kitchen, and made comment not fit for this black text. Soon I smelt the distinct smell of smoke. Turns out we’d pretty much dry fried the pizza. And the base had totally charred. The house immediately filled up with smoke, alerting all three alarms they had installed. It was so loud and looked hilarious after Yukon came out to help us flap various doors to try and get the smoke out of the house.
Not long after the other couch surfer they had staying arrived. He’s a columbian bloke named Oscar. Conversation was pretty stalled with him not really free flowing. I’m not sure if it was because he’s just a quiet guy or if it’s the language barrier thing or if he’s just a dick. You can never tell.
I had to laugh though. After chatting to him for a bit he went into the kitchen to touch bases with Michael. Michael was halfway through resurrecting the Pizza. We’d decided to go halves in the good pizza and put the topping (which was fine) from the burnt one into some sandwiches. Michael offered Oscar a sandwich, his proposal sounding exactly like this. “I can make you a sandwich if you want. I know it looks like sick but it’s actually the top of a pizza that went bad”. haha I cracked up laughing from the other room, it sounded so funny. Who’s going to say yes to that!!
After dinner Michael went back to his homework and I went to get some ciders for a bit of a warm up. One of his mates showed up a bit later too as we were getting ready. A big tall scot from the highlands who easily had a couple of inches on me.
