Headed down towards Hervey Bay and popped into a place called Eungella National Park. Saw a Duck-Billed Platypus in the wild and then stopped off at a viewpoint (Eungella means lands of the clouds so you get the idea). Only gone 5-10 mins and coming back to the car park saw a van leaving the otherwise empty car park. Wondered why they didn't do the little walk to the viewpoint and more precisely wondered where our bloody iPod was! An exciting 10 min campervan chase ensued and various accusations and denials were issued when we finally cornered them. Their word against ours and no wish to see Ozzie prison meant we let them go.
Stopped in Hervey Bay and booked ourselves on a trip to the very famous Fraser Island (largest sand island in the world) and had a good day on this funky weird place. Spent the next day whale watching and it was stunning seeing 2 or 3 groups ("pods" apparently) of 25 ton whales breaching (jumping in the air) simultaneously.
Van slightly ill now - running on 3 cylinders with no indicators or instruments so began limping towards Brisbane to get her sorted out. On the way we stopped off at Australia Zoo (previously home of "Mr Crikey" Steve Irwin 'til he was killed). I didn't get eaten by a croc despite best efforts and Kym didn't manage to kidnap a Koala but otherwise we had an excellent day.
