So off with Amsterdam & onwards for a long, gruelling bus trip to our next leg of the contiki tour; Berlin. And it was well worth the drive, Berlin has been our favourite city so far on the trip. So much history behind the city and I've never seen a place so clean. First night in Berlin was agreed by all on our tour to be our 'quiet night'. A few laid back jugs of beer with the boys at the hostel bar, next thing it was 8am and everyone was a mess, piecing back the events of last night through pictures on cameras. Seemed the happy hour bell rang & jugs of cocktails were disposed of in excessive quantities. Louis ended up dancing on the bar with no shirt on (pictures online), boys were vomiting, wetting the bed, passing out on the toilet, walking around the corridors in the nude. A big night to say the least.
A morning of pain began with a walking tour to explore the culture and history of this beautiful city. Our tour guide took us to see the Berlin Wall, Hitlers final bunker base, the holocaust memorial and a trip up to the rooftop of Parliament House for a 360degree panoramic view of the city. To keep in the culture of the city, I decided to try some of the local cuisine for lunch in town with a German hotdog looking the favourite on the menu. Spicy sausage, cabbage, cheese, bacon, jallepinos, fried onions, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard. Messy but delicious. A game of ultimate frisbee in the park was played to help burn off the lunch and freshen up for the night as it was one of the contiki boys 21st birthday. A night out to a club across the road which sported Bounty-like cages on the dance floor, in addition to 2 for 1 drinks, no cover charge & no need for taxis made for an enjoyable yet inexpensive night to round out the beautiful city Berlin.
