Went to the first pro surfing competition of the year at Snapper Rocks right down the coast from where I live. Saw some great surfing and the beach it was on was great. Towards the end of the day the beach got really crowded because Kelly Slater(nine time world Champion) was surfing his heat. He was surfing against some local kid that was not pro. Slater hung around and did not catch many waves, but the young local kid rode a ton and got some great scores. It was towards the end of the heat and Kelly got desperate and started to catch waves in a hurry because he was losing. He had some good rides but none were amazing. He tried to do some big hits but couldn't land; he must have been having an off day. He ended up losing to the kid. We decided to leave and as we were walking down the beach we basically ran right into Kelly Slater getting out of the water; we weren't really even paying attention! I could have reached out and touched him; then everyone else noticed too and he became surrounded by screaming girls and flashing cameras. Security then came and took him off the beach but it was really neat!
