My roommate and I took the train into Brisbane for an international cricket game between Australia and New Zealand. It was supposed to be a huge game; it was the fifth and deciding game of the series and it was a BIG rivalry(since the 2 countries are so close and similar). We checked the weather before we left and it said it wasn't raining in Brisbane and that there was only a small chance that it would; but when we got off the train it was pouring! We made it to the Gabba Cricket Field and it was still pouring, so we went to a local restaurant and sat down and had some food. We entered the stadium in time for the game to start, but we soon realized it had been delayed. The rain continued as we waited for hours. Finally after 4.5 hours of waiting, they decided to start the game, but they had to shorten it because it was so late and cricket games usually last about 9 hours. So the game finally started and it was great(it's like baseball but a little faster and more exciting!) The people around us were die-hard fans so they helped explain the game to us and by the end I understood the rules and the scoring. Just as the (shortened) game was ending it started pouring! But luckily they had gotten enough of the game in that they could name a winner and Australia had won. People on the streets were dressed up in gold and green and were dancing and partying everywhere. It was such a great atmosphere. Then we caught the train back to the Gold Coast and arrived home extremely late(since the game had been delayed so long!) When we arrived home we were so freezing and soaked! It was an interesting day and something that is definitely a big deal in Australia and I am glad I experienced it.
