Kya Travels
After planning to stay up all night, and failing, we got up at 3.30am, and got dressed, and Dee drove us to Tullamarine airport (Gold Chain!). At first we couldn't find the Tiger departures, but after asking, we found it in a separate terminal. We lined up for AGES to check in, cos they had 5 flights going for Easter I assume. After we checked in we had to line up again for ages so we could go through the security check. When we finally got in, Darren bought a $5 Sausage roll and we went and got on the plane. After fixing some ipod problems, we listened to music until we got into Hobart. We got off the plane and went and picked up our hire car. We then drove into Hobart city and wandered around for a bit looking for something for breakfast. We went to a little café and got some eggs and bacon+sausage/spinach+mushys. After breaky we went for a drive past Salamanca place and went to the tourist centre for some info. Then we headed out to Claremont to go to the Cadbury Factory. When we paid, they gave us some little chocolate bars and when we walked in they gave us two big blocks of chocolate! They had a movie playing in one room about chocolate making – more of a slide show, as there was no commentary. Then in the next room, a guy was giving a presentation all about Cadbury and giving out chocolates. Then we got to taste some of the cocoa mass and cocoa butter, which were both pretty gross! I bought some lollies and furry friends from the shop and then we left. We got back in the car and went for about an hour and a half drive to White Beach (near Port Arthur). We got to the place where we were staying, and talked to the guy there for a bit on the verandah, which had the most amazing views out over White Beach, and a bay all surrounded by mountains. Then we got our stuff out of the car and went to our room, which also had amazing views from the balcony. We had a nap for a few hours, then headed out to Port Arthur Historic Site. We checked out the restaurant there but decided we’d have a look somewhere else before we went back. So we went to a place in Port Arthur called Taylor’s. It was a really nice place with big windows looking down onto a bay surrounded by mountains. Darren had a seafood linguine and I had a spinach and ricotta cannelloni, and we had pumpkin bread and walnut bread which was sooo tasty! After we finished we headed back to Port Arthur Historic Site for a ghost tour. Our guides name was Shannon and she came out in a full goth outfit, and blue and black hair. The perfect ghost tour guide! Our first stop was the church, which was just the walls that remained of the ruins, where Shannon told us stories of a guy who got a pick to the back of the head and a guy who fell from the top and cracked his head open on the wall on the way down. Our next stop was Parsonage, which is apparently the third most haunted building in Australia. We went inside and got told about the ghost that lived in that building and how he didn’t know he was dead, and when he came out he’d wonder why people were in his house! A little girl in the group got really sick suddenly and had to get out of the house. Then we went to the Junior Medical Officer’s house where apparently his 13 children haunt the place as poltergeists. We didn’t go in this house, but Shannon gave us an example of the screams that had been heard from the house (and scared the hell out of another tour group around the corner!). Then we went to the Senior Medical Officers house and went down into the basement where there was a workbench where he used to operate on people and do experiments with them. After that we went over to separate prison, where the really bad criminals were kept, and got told about the ghost sightings in Cell Block C! Then we walked back past the hospital to the visitor centre. We got a certificate for our bravery then got back in the car and headed back to White Beach. When we got back to the hotel, we had a spa and went to bed.
