Kya Travels
We woke up to a 6am alarm this morning that Darren must have accidentally set when trying to get the ipod dock to work last night. After a few snoozes we were able to shut it off and went back to sleep til around midday. We had told Dave that we might meet up with him as he'd offered us free tickets to the art museum, but we decided that we would just do our own thing instead, seeing as we didn't really make a great connection with him yesterday and we only had a short time in Portland! We'd been hoping to catch up with Victoria and Tyson who we'd met in San Francisco on Independence Day, but had a message from her saying they couldn't again that night. Maybe tomorrow! So we walked into town via a coffee stand, over the Broadway Bridge for a change of scenery from yesterday. We made our way into the city and went to Bridgeport Brewing, where I got a Kingpin Double Red Ale (can't remember what Darren got) and we ordered a mac and cheese to share. We figured we'd try snack at different breweries as we went today instead of getting a big meal at one place. When it came out, it was so delicious! Best mac and cheese I've ever had! (Sorry Paul and Jimbo!) It was seriously amazing. When we were done there we walked over to go to 10Barrel again, as that was the most fun yesterday. Our bartender friend was working again, and was happy to see us, but there were no seats at the bar so we decided to go over to Rogue, then try for a bar seat again later. We were totally fine to go to Rogue again, as that was our favourite beer yesterday. We did a couple more tastings, but the cold brew was still the winner. Darren bought a shirt and I bought a jumper, and we chatted with a few different people, including a 40-something year old guy named Sean. We stayed there and hung out for a while, and joined the Rogue Nation (we got a cool membership card as a souvenir) then decided to head back to 10Barrel. Sean came with us and we managed to get two bar seats and got some drinks while we chatted with our bartender buddy. We talked with a couple of girls, Patricia and her twin sister, trying to wingman for Sean, and also chatted with a guy called Chris who was next to Darren at the bar, who was pretty funny and up for a laugh. We had a few other breweries and a live cello gig that we had planned to go to that day but by the time we were ready to leave it was getting a bit late and we were getting a bit drunk. Because we were walking we wouldn't have made it to the venue in time for the show anyway. So we said our goodbyes and just started wandering in the direction of the hotel. We heard some live music playing so stopped at a pub called Henry's where we had a beer and sat outside to watch the band play. There was a cute dog at the table next to us and when the show finished we chatted with the singer for a bit. She gave us a CD then we kept wandering home. This time we went across the Burnside Bridge to cross the river, which is a bit of a dodgier area, but there's a skate park there thats featured in a show we like, Portlandia. The river looked very pretty from here, and I got a photo there, but on the other side we couldn't see the skate park, and couldn't be bothered trying to find it so we just went back to the hotel. This morning with the tip money I had left the housekeeper a note asking more more regular coffee pods (there was only one regular and one decaf) and when we got to our room we found one regular and about 5 decaf pods! Damn! Oh well, we decided we will have to just get good coffee again tomorow, so we went to bed.
