Kya Travels
I woke up this morning and got some breakfast at the common room. It was a good one, they even had chocolate cereal! And yummy cheese and nice brown rolls! Not your usual white toast and cornflakes! Then I went to wake up Darren and we checked out. We went out the front, where Flo and Pancho were already there waiting for us (oops!) then we all headed up the street to a little cafe where we sat down for a drink. We were running a bit late, so we didn't have time to do much, so we jumped in a taxi and headed in to the airport. When we got in and worked out where to go, we realised we were running off Flo's watch, which was set to German time, so we had an hour extra than we thought! So we went to line up to check in (for some reason we couldn't use the machines), and waited a while in the line, then waited a while longer at the desk while the man was on the phone verifying our tickets! Eventually we were all checked in, and had our boarding passes, and still had a bit of time to spare, so we went back out to the airport restaurant bar thing and got our last super bocks together. We had a chat about our bands and organised that we might work together with Panchos band, as they didn't have a singer, and maybe Darren and I could record some vocals for them when we go to Germany. Eventually it was time to go get through security, so we said our 'see you soon's' (not 'goodbyes'!) and went to line up for security. We got through fine, but a security guy got my handbag and needed to look inside. Apparently I had forgotten to give back the knife from getting that wine label off the bottle the other day!! Oops! Trying to sneak a weapon through customs.... Lucky he had a good sense of humour! Pretty embarrassing! We found our gate, then went to find something to eat. We got a plate of pasta each, which were pretty tasty, then waited to board. We were sitting across from a group of three people who also had a guitar, and the girl was doing a sketch of one of the guys. We got talking to them, they were from Paris, and apparently going to visit some of the girl, Marianne's family in Morocco. We chatted with them for a bit while we waited for the boarding line to get smaller, then got in line and went onto the bus to take us out to the airplane. On the bus we tried to use all the French words we knew (which wasn't much!), and had a bit of a laugh with the French guys. We got on the plane and found our seats and settled in for our flight to Morocco! We got food supplied on this flight, but they didn't have any vegetarian options for me (apparently I needed to let them know, even though there was no option when I booked it!), so I had some of Darren's fruit purée, and then it was almost time to land. It's a pretty quick flight there! As we got off the plane we met the French guys again and waited in line with them for passport control. The girl was giving us a bit of advice about how to get into the city with the taxis and that, then offered to get her uncle who was picking them up to talk to the taxi driver for us. So we followed them out and waited with them while they got their luggage then went out and met her uncle. They had a talk in French for a bit, then he offered us a lift in! The first Moroccan person we had met, and we were taken in straight away and given the help we needed and more! We ended up driving with them to their house, and having a good chat with the uncle on the way in about all the things you shouldn't talk about - religion, politics, etc! Pretty funny! But he had an amazing outlook on life and was a very open person, who believed that no one should be forced into a religion, or anything for that matter, and that everyone should travel, because then they would see with new eyes, and all the trivial things that cause the worlds problems wouldn't matter so much anymore! He was great. We got to their house and met the aunt and cousins, and were welcomed into their home for a cold drink, while they looked up directions to our hotel! We had a mini jam with one of the French guys who is a guitar teacher, and had a beer and a bit more of a chat, then the aunt gave us a lift into the city to our hotel. They had given us their address and written directions for a cab driver, in case we wanted to come back for dinner and to play some music with them, too! We thanked them for the lift and the hospitality, then went into the hotel to check in and drop off our bags. We went to go for a wander to find some food (if we were going to go there for dinner, it wouldn't be vegetarian), and got some money out. We wandered around the streets for a while looking around, and ended up after a while at a place called Restaurant Costa Brava, where we sat down out the front and shared a vegetarian tagine! We had a chat to the waiter there, who spoke very limited English, and he taught us a few words, like Shukrun (thank you), and Hoeda (vegetarian, but I don't know how to spell it!). After dinner we walked back towards the hotel, via an ice cream shop, and wandered the streets just looking around. One thing you really notice here, is that the streets are really dirty. There's piles of trash everywhere and all the bins are overflowing. It's a bit of a culture shock too, although we knew to expect it, to see all the women in the burkas and headdresses. You could tell which ones were tourists very easily here!! After a bit of wandering, we made our way back to our hotel and went up to the room, where we found a channel with movies in English and just watched some movies and went to bed. We decided not to go back to Marianne's families house because our tour was starting the next day and we didn't want to be wrecked for it! So we just stayed in.
