Kya Travels
We woke up this morning and packed up our bags, and although we woke up a bit late, the staff were nice and let us hang out for a while to use the bathrooms, after we got our stuff out of the room. So I chilled out in the kitchen for a while and read a book while Darren went for a shower. When we were ready we checked out and made our way down to the port. We stopped at an ATM for a weeks worth of cash, then walked along the water to find our boat for the Sail Croatia cruise we'd be on for the next week! We found our boat (whose name is Tuna!) and went on board and got checked in and shown to our room, which is down below deck. After we put our stuff on board, we headed back off board and into town as we had a bit of time to kill. We went across into town and to a market where we bought some apples then went to a pharmacy for some sea-sick tablets before going back to the boat. We got a beer each from the bar on board, and leant about the payment system... You don't pay for anything on board until the end of the week! That could be dangerous!! We hung out on the deck and had a chat with a few people. The first girl we met, Kelsey, was actually friends with my friend from work, JL, who she had met on another tour in Europe! So random! We chatted with a few others on the table with us, then we were served lunch, and had a welcome speech as the boat was fueling up for the trip. After lunch Darren went back to bed, as he was drowsy from the sea-sick tablets he'd taken! I went up on the top deck with some of the girls, Eilleen, Melissa and Courtney, where we watched some of the beautiful coastline go past us from the front of the boat. After getting splashed a bit from the waves, we moved around to the back of the boat and sat at a table there. A bunch more people started joining us at the table and we had a chat and started to get to know each other. A few drinking games were even started, including the 'peg game' where someone had to put a peg on someone without them knowing, then start a countdown from 10, and if the person didn't find the peg before the countdown was up, they had to drink! It was pretty funny because as the guy was explaining, the girl next to him, Charlotte, had put the peg on his hat without him knowing and totally got him! So then he was the peg master, and at any time could peg the next person! That was funny! After a while, our first island stop, Hvar, was coming into view, so I went down to the room for a 10 minute lie down, then woke Darren up. We got ready, then as we were waiting for the boat to dock, we were chatting with Charlotte and found out it was her birthday! So we let everyone know about that! When the boat was secured, we jumped off, and it seemed everyone on the boat decided to go with Janice's (the Sail Croatia rep) recommendation of climbing up to a fortress that was at the top of the hill overlooking the town and the water. We walked up many many stairs to get up there, but when we arrived the fortress was closing, so they wouldn't let us in! We got some amazing views of the town and other islands nearby though, before making our way back down the stairs into town. When we got to the bottom, a whole bunch of people decided to go around to the beach for a swim, but we wanted to look around the town a bit, so we went with a group of four people from French Canada for a walk down the square where we had a peek into the cathedral (which looked like it was being set up for a baptism or wedding or something) then wandered around the streets for a while and ended up at a supermarket. We went in for some snacks then walked back towards the boat and walked around the port to the little beach section, where some of the guys from the boat were braving the water! It was a bit cold for me, and the sun was going down, so I opted to just sit with some of the others at the side and watch the sunset, which was very pretty! On the walk back we were talking to Melissa who had bought a very expensive beer from a restaurant, then Darren found a little kiosk that sold beers for about a third of the price so they got another beer each, and the three of us sat on a bench outside the boat and had a drink, as it was cheaper than drinking on board! We made up a cool cheers thing, where we were in a circle, did a cheers then tapped the beer on the person next to us' foot before drinking. It was pretty cool! I wonder how many people we could get to do this together by the end of the trip! After chilling out there for a while, everyone came back off the boat to walk down to a restaurant where we were going to get dinner together. We walked with Eillean and Melissa then sat with a group of girls, Sarah the doctor, and Jess and Megs the radiologists! We ended up swapping sides with them before long so Eilleen could smoke without blowing it into people's faces, then we got served up a pretty delicious meal. Mine was a baked penne with veggies. Yummy! We had some beers then shared a couple of bottles of wine with Eilleen and Melissa, then after a while we were almost the only people left! Melissa went to the bathroom and the three of us moved up a few tables to sit with the only other people left here, a couple of couples, Tim and Katie, and Tiarni and Matt. After a while we realized Melissa had been gone for a while, so Eilleen went into the bathroom to check on her, and found Melissa's wallet, but no Melissa! We waited for a while, to finish the wine, and played with a cute cat, then when she didn't come back we started heading back to the boat. We ran into her coming back half way, and the girls had a little bit of a fight with each other because they were both a bit drunk! We got back to the boat and hung out on the top deck for a while then decided we'd go down to the bar for some water. Eilleen and I went down, and as we were at the bar, we heard a loud thump, and I went out to see what it was and realised Darren had fallen from the top deck down the ridiculously steep stairs!! He hadn't hit his head or anything luckily, but his ankle was really sore, and he couldn't move it! Eventually he could wiggle his toes, so we knew it wasn't broken, but he was pretty embarrassed and because of that got a little bit angry, so I helped him down the stairs and after a bit we went to bed.
