Kya Travels
We woke up at about 930 today and got our things packed up and checked out. We headed down to the bus stop and jumped on. We got off at Santa Monica and picked up a free coconut water from some promo girls.
It was perfect for the dehydration, but not big enough, so we crossed the road to a little cafe to get another drink each but they apparently weren't open and couldn't take our money, which they didn't say when we walked in, only after choosing a drink and going to the counter...
So then we went outside and saw our bus coming so we had to go without!
We jumped on the bus and put our headphones in for the hour and a half trip to downtown LA, and got off at the station.
We walked through the city towards our next bus station, and it felt like we were already in Mexico. The streets were quite dirty and on the streets that weren't filled with homeless people, they were filled with markets, where everyone was speaking Spanish and it didn't feel like an entirely safe area.
We found a little cafe that seemed ok, and stopped in for a big water, some juices and Mexican style food.
It was pretty tasty and it was good to get out of the heat for a bit.
When we were done, we headed to the bus companies office and waited a while for the bus.
When it arrived we jumped on, and I slept pretty much the entire way to San Diego.
We got off the bus and started walking up towards the hotel.
It was such a change from LA. San Diego so far is a beautiful, clean city, with nice parks and friendly people. And that was just the first 5 minutes!
We kept walking up the street, but I couldn't walk very fast as I was getting horrible blisters between my toes from my thongs, and eventually I had to just take them off (that would sound funny to Americans :P ) and go the rest of the way barefoot. That was so much better!
We got to the hotel and checked in, and dropped off our bags.
We decided to get back out for dinner before we got too comfortable so we headed down the street to the area of San Diego called Little Italy.
We had gotten a recommendation the night before for two places, Filipis and Mimmo's. When we got to Filipi's though, the line was out to the street and all the way to the back of their shop, so we went to Mimmo's instead.
It was a nice place, with the decor made to look like you were dining in a small Italian street. It was very cool. Darren got a gnocchi and I got a pizza. It was so amazing, best pizza ever!
Not long later we headed back outside and got some photos of the Little Italy sign then headed back to the hotel for an early night.
