Today we took the world famous cable car to Fishermans Wharf. Up and down we went through San Francisco. Fishermans wharf was a hive of activity with street performers, food stalls and lots of huge sea gulls. We caught our first glimpse of Alcatraz across San Francisco Bay which was definitely a sight. We also had our first experience of the famous clam chowder which was served in a hollowed out bread roll and it tasted delicious and was very fitting for where we were. After lunch we headed to Pier 39, a busy pier with lots of shops and restaurants, but also home to hundreds of sea lions that call the pontoons on this pier home. The amount of noise the sea lions made was immense and it was hilarious to see them climb up onto the pontoon and proceed to walk over other sea lions to find available space.
Later we walked along the length of the promenade, ending our day on another pier that gave great sunset views of Golden Gate Bridge. We then queued for a long time for the cable bar back to the centre. However the cable then stopped working whilst on our way back which was quite an experience as we created a lot of traffic behind us!
