So Venice is the besat city so far. Jess, Kathleen, Christiana, Ellen, Katherine, Liz, Matt, and I went from Friday to Monday. I don't know that I can claim sightseeingbecause we didn't go into any buildings just perfected our gelatto stroll.
Friday: We got completely lost and walked the perimeter of Venice for a few hours. Walked on the highway and saw some hookers but it was 70 degrees and gorgeous so it was cool to be walking forever. We got to the Magic Venice 2 after a while and we were locked out. It wasn't a hostel but a little house we rented out for the weekend. It was so cool to have our own little house in the country. That night we headed to the Renalto Bridge and got dinner at Brek. That was the introduction to the best food in the world. We wandered the streets for a few more hours. Got gelatto, went shopping and headed home.
Saturday: We went in search of San Marco Piazza. It turns out I'm like the bird whisperer. they seel bags of corn kernals for a euro. So I bought a bag and just dtood there and the pigeons were on my arms and my head and shoulder. Totally cool. Not flying rats or whatever but just very chill birds. I loved that. Again, most of the day was just getting food and laying near the water in the sun then repeating it. We did do a gondala ride. It was me, jess, matt, and liz in one and the others in another. It wasn't a complete rip off 20€ each for 40 minutes. It was so pretty though. We went around sun set. That night we played Personality. Ellen's amazing game and had a blast until the woman who owned the pizza place next door told us it was a lunar eclipse. We sat outside for an hour maybe just watching the moon waiting for it to change.
Sunday: Last day in Venice. We did nothing of value. We thought about maybe going to a museum but decided to chill in the Piazza instead. We went to big fancy dinner that night, sans Matt and Liz, right on the Grand Canal. It was so beautiful and i tried my first piece of politically incorrect meat. We got to sit there for a couple hours and finish the wine and chit chat. I love these girls. We talked about our families and money and hometowns for hours. It was such good bonding as was more Personality that night when we got back to our humble abode as we all took to calling it. We moved past the game into go fish, slapsies, and blackjack before heading to bed.
Monday: So weird. We got back to Dublin fine and then they wouldn't let us off for maybe 20 mins. Then let us off ten at time. Checked out boarding passes and passports and weighed us and our luggage. Something dodgey happened on the plane but we didn't know what.
All in all it was the best trip we've had because its been the only vacation. London, Barcelona, the West, and now the North this weekend are so scheduled. We got to sleep late and meander and shop and eat too much gelatto all weekend. On every corner is a violin or guitar player just being all mellow, it is city built on calm and romance. I want to go back to Italy!
