PART 1......
Sorry about the delay- we are having to go back quite a bit but we don't want to miss anything out!!! So...From Koh Tao and one Padi certificate later we had the worst journey so far - walking to the ferry port in terrential rain our bags got soaked through so all our clothes smelt delicious and Katie's flip flops decided to snap and then to make it worse when we got on the ferry it was bloody freezing and we were sodden and in little shorts and vests!!!!
Finally got to Au Nang in Krabi early evening and just asked the bus driver to drop us off at the first place after a cramped and 7 hour drive we were not the happiest of people! The room was pretty cruddy to say the least but it had a bed. So we decided to take the 20 min walk into town to refresh and cheer up! The night markets were bustling so we were in our element buying a few pressies for people and bartering on top form!!
Nothing much else in Krabi in our opinion and we weren't bothered about staying during the next day so we headed straight on the ferry for Koh Phi Phi. Even on the ferry ride there we knew we were in for a treat as the surrounding Islands were untouched and the sun was shining at its best! When we arrived we shoved into a place that finds your accomodation so it was quite easy to find somewhere. Some Thai fella grabs your bags and you have to follow him as he pushes them in a wheel barrow type thing!! - we're sure our one was trying to lose us because we couldnt keep up for the life of us!! The guesthouses are all on the opposing beach on the other side and all up hills- more like shanty houses, but a cool hippy vibe about them, very laid back and relatively clean.
Filled the first day with looking through the markets and visting the beach, its very busy and quite commercial but at the same time its not really in a tacky way. In the evening we had trouble finding somewhere to eat as after so long you get fed up of only eating bloody noodles and rice and sometimes you just crave something stodgey- this night it was pasta and could we find it?!... no! We even found an Italian restaurant that had a menu full of the stuff, but typically when we ordered (our mouths watering) "sorry we have run out of pasta" Arrrrghh!!The rest of the evening (after our THAI CURRIES) was spent at a cocktail bar on the beach with our favourites- Margharitas! Met two lovely chappies that we chatted to and watched some more people skipping fire- we tried to persuade Jem to have a go but she was having none of it!!
The next day we were really excited as we had an adventure to embark on..... We had booked to stay the night on Maya beach (where 'The Beach' with Leonardo Di'Caprio was filmed!!) and it was everything we imagined and more! On the way we stopped at another beautiful Island we can't remember the name of for some snorkelling, it was brilliant. There were so many tropical fish and the water was crystal blue, the driver would chuck in some food and they all go crazy flipping everywhere around you and in your face!!
Nearing 'the' beach we couldnt believe our eyes as it was exactly like the film and how we pictured it. In its own secluded circular cove the sand was pure white and the sea looked so inviting. It was unreal only being there with 17 other people for the whole night as it was basically ours- we were sure at some point one of us was going to go crazy and turn to cannibalism or get bitten by a shark just like the film! Sadly we didnt bump into Leo, would have been nice to have a snuggle with him!Had a lovely group and we all sat round the guitar with our Samsong buckets (the lethal ones we had in Chiang Mai!!) and chatted until the early hours, going to the toilet was a bit surreal as every now and again somebody would wonder off onto the beach with just a torch (the real toilets were disgusting!!) but we had a laugh, making our very own light show!! We Slept in just our sleeping bags on the actual beach under the stars... luxurious.
We woke up feeling a bit worse for wear- its not often people can say they've actually been sick 'on THE beach'... hey Katie?!!! hehe! luckily for us as soon as we got off the boat we had already previosuly spotted 'Little Britain' the chavviest most English breakfast place on Phi Phi... just what we needed!! (they even had real Heinz beans!!!) but we can safely say it still did not beat a Jilly Willy sausage sandwich of a Saturday morning- how we have dreamt about those sandwiches on MANY an occasion!!....................
