Everything is an adventure in New York City/ Northern New Jersey. From real city apartment accommodations, to the New York City Skyline, huge dinosaurs at the American Museum of Natural History, riding the subway, playing kickball in central park, the sheer number of people, and the tall buildings everywhere, the smells, spending time with people one loves - where does one even start to write.
The Natural History Museum is a place to return to - next time for more than a day! Upon entering the museum we were greeted by towering dinosaurs. The truly cool thing is that 85% of the dinosaurs on display at the museum are real dinosaur fossils not just casts. It is hard to fathom what it must have felt like when the explorer-scientists-paleontologists, began to piece together the meaning of these huge bones that were being uncovered throughout the midwest and the world. One can imagine that it was probably unbelievable to many people.
It is an amazing thing to imagine that these fossils were and still are right under the ground we walk on. Makes you think a little differently about what's under the surface of the earth.
Ian was literally chomping at the bit to get to the reptile and amphibian exhibit. To put it in perspective he wanted to go there first BEFORE THE DINOSAUR EXHIBIT. We of course indulged his awe inspiring obsession with amphibians. In this picture Ian is checking out a gigantic salamander - still alive in Japan.
In this photo Ian, Jonan, and Glenn are in the rib cage of one huge dinosaur!
It's 10:00pm at night now as I write this and we are driving west toward Rochester to visit our niece Jennifer for day two of our epic journey!
