Krys & Toni's World Adventure
Hi everyone,
Finally got our act together to put some new photo's on the computer and to do a proper journal entry. We've had lots of fun this week doing all the things around Cairns we hadn't had the chance to do up til now. We have got our new camper van to get us round which is fab. It's really tiny with just a bed and some storage underneath the bed (not the deluxe version I had in my mind where you could walk around, take a shower etc!), but it is really cute. Haven't named it yet so suggestions welcome.
Started out in our van on Monday when we drove a few hours north to Cape Tribulation and the Daintree rainforest. By the time we got there though it was pretty dark. We parked on a road in the forest with no lights around and realised we didn't have a light and didnt put the light in the van on as didnt want to drain the car battery. It gets dark at around 6.30pm here so went for a little walk then had a really early night since couldnt read or anything! The next day we went to the beach at Cape tribulation, which was very cool cos the rainforest literally stops at the beach then there's the sea with the barrier reef nearby. We had a little drive to a natural swimming hole then down to Daintree villiage to go on a croc spotting tour. Was a bit apprehensive as then didnt guarantee seeing the crocs and last time we went on a wild life watching tour all we saw were a few birds for our money. However, we needn't have worried. Started off seeing a really little one that was about 2 years old, then saw quite a few mare just sunning themselves on the little river beaches. Got right up close which was fantastic. Biggest one we saw was called Fat Albert and was about 5 metres long. One scary wild crocodile. We also saw a really tiny 5 month old one which was great.
We drove down the coast then to Mossman Gorge where we walked through the rainforest for a bit. Not much else to say about there really that wouldnt bore you all!
Met up with Krys' friend from home, Ian, who arrived in Cairns a few days ago. After a big last night out in Cairns with our frinds we've met here and which involved lots of free drinks from our flatmate who works in a bar, we got up fairly early and said bye bye to our flat and drove up north with Ian to Palm Cove beach and Yorkies k*** beach (it really is called that). Bit windy so only OK, but the drive north towards mossman with all the beaches was beautiful.
Finally, yesterday we went white water rafting which was great. I was a bit scared, but have done it once before with Lou in Switzerland which was fine so kept that in mind. This river was a harder one though, but loads of fun. Got very wet, swam in the rapids and purposely flipped out the raft down one slope. Not so fun as my ankle got caught and now walking with a limp and have to go climbing up mountains today!
Cairns has been ace and we're really sad to leave, but got to keep moving or we'll get stuck in one place. To our lovely Cairns friends, great to meet you and hope you like the photos! Emily- there are none of you from Tuesday as you did a disappearing act again! You're like a magician. Take care guys and hopefully see some of you in the UK (or Sydney as everyone seems to be going there for xmas- yay!)
Lots of love,
Toni and Krys x
