Krys & Toni's World Adventure
Arrived in Phnom Penh and decided to have a relaxing night after our six hour bus journey. Found a cool guest house that over looked to lake in the middle of the city. Were able to hang out at other guest houses nearby and found a nice one with a veranda that stretched out into the lake which had hammocks on it.
Went to Tuol Sleng (nicknamed S21) which was the headquarters of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge regime. Nowadays it's a museum but this is where many Cambodian people were interrogated, tortured and killed. It was very interesting as neither of us really knew what heppened then but it was also quite horrible to hear what the Cambodian people were put through. After that we went out to this village on the outskirts of the city known as the 'killing fields' which is where there were hundreds of mass graves. Again, not a very happy place but when we were there it was very peaceful.
The next day we went to the national museum, royal palace and the silver pagoda. To be honest we were both a little tired of the culture thing and only really did it cos we felt we should. When we arrived at the royal palace we got the camera taken off us, which was probably a blessing or we'd have taken more boring photos of fancy buildings, phew.
Leaving for Kampot today, which is a little town near the coast in the south.
Hope you're all well,
Toni and Krys.
