We left Phuket on a ferry and have spent the last couple of days on the island Koh Phi Phi Don. It is an island occupied by locals but largely taken over by tourists. There are no roads here, so you have to walk everywhere or take longtail boats around the island. The paths through the island are all lined with shops., restaurants, and travel information booths. We are staying in a little bungalow, or more accurately a bamboo hut with a fan, a mattress on the floor, a toilet that doesn't flush, no sink, but comes with a flat screen TV. It's cute but super cozy...
We booked a boat tour for yesterday afternoon which was well worth our time! We were on a big boat for four hours with about twenty other people, many of them Canadian. We toured around Koh Phi Phi Leh, a smaller island with beaches, but no development. We jumped off the boat and swam into Monkey Beach to feed wild monkeys bananas and cucumbers. Even saw some tiny baby monkeys! We also stopped at Maya Beach, the ever popular Thai beach where The Beach was filmed. We passed the Viking Cave, the only part of the island with any people living there. It was literally just a cave in all the rock with a whole community living inside. We also got to snorkel and kayak around in a bay. The tour was a really nice way to cool off for the day, before watching the sunset from the boat.
Today we hiked up to the viewpoint on the island. We went early in the morning to avoid too much heat, but still reached the top completely drenched in sweat. We were treated with the gorgeous view of the island, with the stretch of beach between ocean on both sides. We found ourselves a big private beach for the afternoon to cool off!
Tomorrow we are off to another island, Koh Lanta. Hope everyone at home is well. Talk soon. :)
