Arrived in Paris 11.35am on 19 August 2014. Crammed into subway and lost passport and two credit cards and license. Obtaining emergency passport at Aussie embassy. Experiencing Paris police and transport back and forward first hand. Pleasant evening cruise on the Seine. Next morning visited the opulence of Versailles. Louis XIV had amazing wealth and splendour. Understandable that Napoleon reacted against this when the people were without. Louis XIV wanted to update and make better than what he had . Le Louvre was not enough. He extended the hunting lodge.
