So after a really early morning start yet again Fytra, Johanna and I headed off to the airport to catch our flight to KL where I would be staying for a week. Whilst on our journey Fytra and I arranged to meet up for the night which already made me feel more confident about my coming week with my very own guide to KL :)
After arriving at my hostel Reggae Mansions and settling into the highest bunk you have ever seen which was actually quite cool with its own curtain so it felt like your own bedroom I had a well deserved nap before meeting with Fytra for a nice glass of wine at a local bar. We both decided to have an early night with the long day that we had both had but arranged to meet up the next night for a night out!!
I was awoken the next day by a rather hungover dorm mate who had a few too many on the rooftop bar the night before so thought I would be quiet and go out unfortunately Fytra also told me there was new H and M just opened in town it would be rude not to take a visit so this was my first stop uh oh. I also stopped for lunch at the most random restaurant I have ever seen called T Bowl Concept, basically the seats are toilets and all the food are served out of mini toilets soooo bizarre but really nice food. After spending way too much for a humble backpacker I stepped out of the mall to find torrential rain only to be informed by someone when I got back to the hostel 'dont you know its monsoon season?' - clearly not!! Later that evening Fytra met me at Reggae for some drinks on the rooftop along with my dorm mate Tom and next door dorm Chris before we swiftly realised that the rain was not going to die down any time soon so instead headed to a street called Chatkang to explore the massive strip of bars and consume copius shots before calling at a night and raiding the 'meat van' loads of sticks of various meats/fish/pigeon eggs etc which are then deep fried or boiled - sounds dodgy but was actually really nice and luckily none of us were ill result!!
I had signed up to do the Reggae 7 wonders tour the next day with a group of 10 of us as it seemed the easiest way to see the main attractions in KL so off we headed in our mini van for the day at 10am after a rather late night where I spent most of the day with an equally hungover Chris, an American girl called Sam and a Welsh girl called Bronwyn. First stop was a gorgeous Chinese temple where there was there the most beautiful designs I have seen so far. We also visited the national palace, national monument and the mosque where the girls had to wear head to toe robes and a guy started trying to conver me and Sam where we swiftly scurried away!! All the days sights lead to the main highlight of Batu caves with a total of 272 steps to reach the caves and a massive Hindu shrine within, just before we went up Sam decided to tell me she had been bitten by one of the same types of monkeys that lived in the caves and had to have 5 rabies shots!! I went from being really excited about seeing loads of monkeys walking past to absolutely petrified and tensing up everyone time I saw one - thanks Sam lol :) After a really long day we headed back to the hostel for a few hours relaxation before more partying on the rooftop bar this time where a pyjama party was taking place. I wasnt taking part however was cheering on to New Zealanders who I had met that day as there was the lure of flights to Phuket on offer which is where they wanted to go unfortunately they came 2nd and 3rd which won them a free nights stay at the hostel and a ticket for Reggae tour ironically they left the next day and had done the same tour with me DOH!!
The nex morning Sam, Chris, Bronwen and myself decided to meet in the morning to got to Times Square mall where they have the biggest indoor rollercoaster for 10 quid for the day we got to go on loads of rides which we took full advantage going on the rollercoaster alone 3 times before going a little kids merry go round where me and Bronwen spotted a teacup and swiftly span it until we were nearly sick and going faster than the ride itself!! This called for a break from the rides and were all starving after squabbling for a while (I think mainly due to hunger)clever old me found a Nandos and we hot footed it there, I know what your thinking its not bloody traditional but I dont care it was LUSH!! The rest of the afternoon was spent trekking to both the Petronas Towers where we briefly went inside to see what the shops were like before seeing Gucci, Burberry and other designer delights and realising all we could afford was frozen yoghurt yummy!! Next was the tallest building in KL the KL tower funnily suffice to say we went up neither as we were trying to watch the pennies however spent a great day in fits of giggles and took plenty of pics from the bottom where they were still pretty spectacular. That night it was time for some street food and equally cheap drinks as most of the group were to be heading seperate ways the next day except little ol' me.
As everyone else had departed and we had got suitably drunk the previous night I decided my last day should and was spent doing absolutely nothing except reading and washing - exciting times I bet you are well jealous :) before having to repack for the next stage of my travelling to BORNEO BABY!! I fly out tomorrow for 3 free days before joining my tour, luckily for me Bronwen also had wanted to go to Borneo so I will be meeting her there for some mischief before the tour begins............Laters :) xx
