We are now in Akaroa and nearing the end of our 6 weeks in New Zealand. In some ways it has gone very quickly but on the other hand it seems a long time since we have arrived and we have visited so moany places and covered over 5000 km.
On Wednesday we went on the TSS Earnslaw and visited a farm at Walters Peek where we had a demonstration of sheep dogs at work as well as seeing a sheep shearer in action (slow motion action) and looked at some dear being farmed and some Highland Cattle. Quote of the day came from an American lady who asked the farmer if he sheared the Highland Cattle in the same way as the sheep. I thought his reply was very polite.
We travelled down to Dunedin in the rain and visited Larnach c"Castle". This was a bit disappointing as it turned out to be a 19 Century house built in the style of a castle. Wednesday was pouring with rain which was befitting for a town named after Edinburgh. We went to see the settlers museum befor esetting off for Oamaru.
Oamaru is famous for it's blue penguins and the rarer yellow eyed penguin. Despite the cold we managed to see a yellow eyed pebguin in it's natural environment and have the pictures to prove it.
We have travelled all the way to Akaroa today and will be going out on a boat trip tomorrow to see some dolphins , penguins and seals. Then we are off to Christchurch for the weekend before heading to Brisbane on Monday
