I left for Zambia in the morning and that was a hell of a shocker too…white people around, shops that looked exactly like American outlet malls, even a Spar! Banks, supermarkets….was nuts. I arrived at the jollyboys backpackers in Livingston only to find myself inundated with soooo many people to talk to, all the coolest like minded people ever. All they do is travel, travel and travel and all anyone talks about is travelling and everyone was just sitting around drinking beer and smoking. Was right up my alley, made about 30 friends instantly. I remember playing a drunken game of beer pong with an American dude whole also lives in a village for 2 months like me…I sucked at it therefore I got more beers, found out its good to lose at beer pong. I went white water rafting the next day and was scared to death in the morning, especially after hearing 3 people had died on the Zambezi in that last 3 months…scary stuff. Once I got going though it was awesome fun, we went through 23 rapids in the day and technically I went to Zimbabwe as well! We flipped over once which was great fun, you're literally in a washing machine of water and just get pulled through the current. On one rapid I fell out of the boat to which was scary to be on my own but great fall, going down a rapid just in a lifejacket is awesome on its is. We got lunch on the rocks and after there were another load of rapids, got so sunburnt though in that day. We also were able to jump out of the boat at the calm bits and just let the river take us down stream and get back in the boat for the next rapid. I was will 2 older couples but they were great fun, a lot of pushing each other over board and splashing the other boats with out paddles. The scariest part was actually going up to the top of the gorge in a cable car, your literally vertical and facing down, you get as much free beer as you want at the top though so I guess that's their incentive.Every night was like a party we were going out to the bars around Livingston or just hanging out in the hotel, made friends with a girl who could sing and played the guitar so sat on one of the beds outside listening to her for ages…was so relaxing under the Zambian stars, she sang Janis Joplin's Bobby McGee nearly perfectly. I also did a micro light flight…like the plane in Fly Away Home, and I'm scared of heights, but this was great, it was absolutely beautiful to see Victoria Falls from up high…man the views were wonderful. It only lasted 15mins but was worth the experience! I then spent a few hours with some people from jollyboys walking around the falls and the top of the gorge, was scary but fun. I met a guy on the same flight as me so we palled up and went to the airport together, unfortunately with all this flying I've developed a fear of flying so I'm terrified whenever I'm on a plane now!! It should be getting better the more flights I take but I guess not!
