I took a bus from the airport to Santa Barbara after finally sorting out my ticket! Yes I now have my round the world ticket sorted out after about 3 months of trying, ok is anyone's reading this who is thinking of buying a RTTW ticket…it is NOT easy to reroute the ticket once your half way through, however much you travel agent tells you hey its only 100 bucks and your done if your not in the western country you really have no hope in changing your ticket! So any who I've spent nearly 2 weeks in Santa Barbara, I know this town like the back of my hand, I think I've been into ever shop here, done everything I could and walked about 80miles in 2 weeks! It's a very beautiful place though. The streets are lined with Jacarandas, there are flowers and plants everywhere, 40ft palms line the seafront and its been lovely hot and sunny everyday here, its probably the most prettiest towns I've been to on my trip, just because everything is laid out so nicely and there's so much greenery everywhere and coming from LA you really appreciate that. And also being in America is a completely different kettle of fish altogether from the other places I've gone to. It's the first western country since leaving England so I'm just enjoying the novel things. Buses with timetables, traffic that stop for pedestrians, the cereal isle with about 100 different brands, I can go on forever. Mom called me earlier and asked with all enthusiasm "Hey Kate, what you doing now??" my reply I was in a supermarket "just looking at things" not buying anything just looking at the mass variety of every product, the perfectly shaped fruit and vegetables!! Its just such a different place here, walking down the street in this clean, friendly, almost perfect little town you would think no one has a care in the world all the while Chris has been telling me about the number of awful xenophobic attacks that have been going on in South Africa and the huge amount of refuges actually fleeing BACK to Zimbabwe because the situation is so bad. Man.
