Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
Last day in Cambod and we very nearly slept in past our check out time- oops! Packed oober quickly, dumped our bags in reception and ventured out for some brunch. Went to the loverly posh café for some pastries and a latté, then went to check out some artwork we'd previously spotted at the market. Purchased some gorge pieces of monks and ephelants then a monsoon decided to strike big time. We managed to make it most of the way back to the hotel but decided to seek refuge in the one and only modern shop in town, which belonged to Nokia. Had some banter checking out the phones but thought it was a little mean making the sales assistants think I was actually going to buy something. So back to the hotel we went and flagged down a tuk tuk to take us to the airport a little early. And it was just as well we got there sharp since we discovered that we needed to pay a ridiculously pricey "Departure Tax", which came to $30 each- shocking!! Neither of us had that amount on us and there were no ATMs in the building- nightmare!! Thank god I had travelers cheques with me so we were able to cough up. Had a bit of a wait before boarding but the flight wasn't too long and we were back in Bangkok in no time.
Gota taxi straight to Lucky Number on Khao San Road again since we knew it was cheap although we had to face the brick hard beds again. Went to a restaurant attached to a good hotel across the road (thanks for the advice mum), stuck our incredibly over-due laundry in to be done. (I was having to wear Darren's boxers for the past week since I ran out of underwear aages ago!) Went online for a bit, a lemon shake of course, then finally headed for bed.
