Gotta say that my ear plugs came in useful last night as the guy below me snores like a pig!
No lie in for me either as got woken up at 7 by a girl using her hairdryer! The bed isn't the most comfortable either and I didn't sleep very well - in fact I ended up watching a couple of episodes of You on Netflix in the night!
I went down for breakfast at about 8 - cheese and a boiled egg with toast! Its a good job I am not vegan as it would have just been dry toast! It will keep me going for a couple of hours anyway!
I had read about a museum that has a load of banksy art on show so that was todays plan. I managed to get a shower after breakfast - one shower between 6 is hard work! Then headed off for a wander.
The weather was really nice, blue skies and sunny - in fact I was a bit too warm in my massive coat! I wandered down to the Museum quarter which was about 10 mins away and its where the famous 'I am Amsterdam' sign used to be, but its not there now. There is a big outdoor ice rink there now instead. I sat and had a drink just people watching - one of my favourite things to do!!
It kind of sunk in a bit more that I was actually doing it! My adventure had started! It still seems a bit like I am just on a short holiday still but I feel so relaxed and happy!
There are lots of museums in this area - including Van Gogh, but I can't really afford to go to them all so I am just planning on going to the Moco one which is where the Banksy exhibition is.
I queued for a bit to get my ticket, a guy in front of me spent 500 euros on tickets for all sorts - he is definitely living the dream! I, on the other hand, used my student card to get a discount!
The exhibition was great, so many different prints, canvases and sculptures - some were from Dismaland which was the theme park he created in Weston Supermare which I went to, so it was great to see them again! It was really busy inside though which was a bit annoying. It would have probably been better to visit in the morning or later in the evening but I would definitely recommend it.
After the museum, I headed over to the red light district. I had already decided that I probably wasnt going to visit here on a night. Its a fun place and obviously very lively but I just didnt feel very comfortable on my own round there at night. I had a nice wander around the canals - it really is such a beautiful and pretty place. The buildings are amazing.
I had a couple of beers on my way, sat out in the sunshine watching people come and go. It gets more expensive near the red light district though, 4 euros for half a lager!
I wandered back to Leidseplein and had a drink and some food in the square, again not much for vegetarians though so it was an omelette - I have only eaten eggs and cheese so far!!
I got back to the room about 5pm and a little rest and watched another couple of episodes of You (Its amazing, I am hooked!!) Then came the announcement over the loud speaker - 'Ladies and Gentleman, it is now happy hour - woo woo' Well it would be rude to not to partake in a 2 for one deal! ha ha!!
So I got changed and headed down, the bar is really nice and lively. They have beer pong and music on and everyone is just having fun, I like it!
But, happy hour is lethal! You not only get 2 for 1 but a free shot each time too! I got talking to a group of Aussies and we had a few drinks together (one called Barnaby!!)
I really really fancied a guinness though (if you know me, you know how much I love a pint of the black stuff!!) so I headed out into the square to an Irish bar. It was a decent pint too - should be for 9 euros though!! The rest of the night was mainly just drinking so I wont bore you! I got talking to a couple of local guys and then the Aussies turned up so it just got messy!
Getting into the bunk was fun! My legs are covered in bruises from the metal bed!!
Amsterdam, I love you!!!
