We arrived for the third time in Hanoi from Sapa (and used terrible toilets where women peed between bricks on the floor with no individual cubicles, yuk!) and Farley was there to meet us off the bus. We got a rip off taxi to their apartment which was really nice. We met his gf Hannah, who's lovely, and had some pizza and wine. Great to catch up and forgot how funny Farley was, with his crazy stories about what him and the boys have got upto.
The next day we got up early and went to Ho Chi Minh mausoleum (after getting slightly lost.) It was very strict, having to walk in single file, keep quiet, hands out of pockets and leave my camera with them. Seeing his body freaky, it's been preserved for 60 odd years, and just actually just looks like he is sleeping. He goes to Russia once a year to get his preservation in tack. He also has a four person armed guard at all time. Next was the military museum, it was ok, cool seeing the war planes. We had brunch at Hanoi backpackers, a really nice burger and lasagne, then walked for quite a while in the rain to find Cafe Giang to sample the infamous egg coffee, a hanoi speciality. It was amazing!! A tiny little alleyway, full of locals too, we never would have found it had it not been for the recommendation from Roisin, who had been there on her street food tour. We went for a walk around the lake, which was nice, and managed to get some money back from the hotel we were supposed to stay in so they was very nice of them. Had a chill out afternoon then headed to Green Lantern, for amazing food!! We were soo impressed and very nice mojitos as well. Which ended up in us slightly worse for ware. Then onto a club called Base, me in my walking boots, tracksuit bottoms and dancing on stage... What has happened to me! Also banging my head on the shutter on the way out is just me in a word; clumsy. We had a great wee end to one of our favourite countries, thanks Farley and Hannah.
