After a beautiful 2 hour cruise here, and seeing dolphins along the way, we arrived at Nabua Lodge. First impressions are good, beautiful waters, lovely staff. Booked into a dorm but we ended up on a beachfront bure so that was 'good'. A free upgrade, a little house to ourselves instead of a 10 bed dorm, what's to be sad about... It was just not for me!!! So our thatched room just spoke to me and whispered, 'I'm hiding spiders up here that you can't see!' And although we had mosquito nets, mine had holes in it. So with my upset with the room, I went to use shared toilets and they STANK!!! Just not impressed. The staff seemed nice but it couldn't make up for my dislike for the room, the lack of beach (the tide just covered it for half of the day, and it was not the white sand that we had became accustomed to... Yes I is get fussy.) and interesting lunches. (Dinner was good tho.) So that day we just went for a little walk along the beach to the tea house, for coffee and cake. And walked over to have a look at 'Safe Landing Resort'. (It looked a lot nicer than ours.) Then spent the rest of the day in a hammock. Still lovely weather thank goodness. That evening the six of us had dinner (the only people at the resort); me Kenny Paula Haiden Emma and Rick. Then a lovely Kava ceremony as the others hadn't tried it yet; once was enough for me but I had one 'low tide' cup. Upon getting into bed that night, I was greeted by a spider inside my mosquito net :( so I had a mini breakdown and had to sleep in Kenny bed.
The next day, we went hand line fishing for a few hours. Dropped Emma and Rick off to snorkel the blue lagoon, which looked beautiful, then went to the beach to catch crabs to use as bait. Not really finding too many, Haiden collected some hermit crabs, which decided to crawl out of their pot on the boat and bite my foot! Eventually we got started tho, and me Paula and Haiden caught (only little ones, but Paula got on her first cast!), impressed that I actually know what it feels like now when they bite. (I just didn't get it when we were in Leleuvia.) Later on, we went for a walk half way to other island (towards blue lagoon resort); but forgot to bring sun cream and didn't realise how far it was, so we turned back after 20 mins. Although we did see massive clam shells and beautiful coloured volcanic rock. We came back and met the new arrivals; Christina (who we had met on Barefoot), Sarah Leoni Tara and Samu.
That night we had a few drinks, in other words hammered the 58% Bounty Rum and played games, one of which I won!! Go me, and got a free beer. The next day was not pleasant...
Woke up at 6.30am and felt roasting!! So I peeled myself off a Kenny, escaped under the mosquito net and went and lay on a hammock outside. In a way it was peaceful, there wasn't another person awake, just me. The feeling of peace last all of 1 minute before I made it to the beach to throw up. Well at least the fish would be fed and it was more polite that later when I threw up on the path. So the day kinda went from bad to worse, with a Kenny taking a 'I'll get you back' hangover picture, not being able to eat a thing at breakfast, but after having a wee sleep, I was right as rain, and 'mummy' Paula advising me to take some of the breakfast cake for when I wake up, genius. So the hangover resulted in me missing my much anticipated trip to Sawa-I-Lau cave, the reason for choosing this island. Just means I'll have to go back to Fiji, isn't that a pity... NOT!! So after I wolfed down lunch, spent the rest of the day with the lovely Christina, had some more coffee and cake, and walked to Safe Landing again so she could get some chocolate. There, we bumped into Angelique, another girl we'd met on Barefoot. Fiji really is so small.
After another lovely dinner, more games (Kenny won this time), we had another Kava ceremony. Again one was enough for me, but Kenny decided to get stuck in. So away I went to bed. I'm lying inside my mosquito net, reading twilight on the kindle, and I hear before I see, a huge spider the size of my hand run up the wall beside me into the thatch roof!! I don't think I have ever jumped and ran so fast to get out of there!!! I just wanted to cry :( So apparently one of the staff went in and killed it, and added that it wasn't even a big one! I don't know if he got it or of he was just telling me that, so I made Kenny come to bed, big spoil sport girlfriend. Needless to say the sleep didn't go too well that night.
Our last day was spent sunbathing and reading while Kenny went fishing. Then onto the big yellow boat back to Nadi. 5 hours, but beautiful scenery the whole way :) Decided that next time, I'll visit the 'nicer' islands: Blue Lagoon, Manatray and Octopus.
