Done so much in one week!! I'll try and start from the beginning. Charlotte arrived a couple of Sundays ago, ready for our road trip. We flew out to Melbourne from Sydney last Tuesday and we spent a couple of days there. The first we explored the city on the free tourist shuttle bus, we went to Captain Cooks house and Chinatown for dinner. I had the nicest Sashimi in a Japenese restaurant, and got a little light headed on some Sake. At first I was slightly worried about the thimble size of the pot thing we drank it out, but apparently it's bloody strong! Then Thursday we wandered around St Kilda (where we are staying) checked out the beach and stuff. It was a bit cold that day so naturally we felt we had to go and find a nice sunny beer garden to wile away the afternoon! St Kilda is so pretty though, reminds me a little of Whitstable, lots of arty shops, and coffee shops. Everything is out on the side walk though so good place to watch the world go by! after a few drinks we headed down to the Melbourne Luna Park which is right on the beach. Unfortunately it shut at five!! so we couldn't enjoy any rides. there was however a nice night market on and we consoled ourselves with buttered corn on the cob. Which was good! Friday we did a neighbours tour and met Janelle Timmons!! Main of the exciting! In the Afternoon we picked up our 'wicked' camper. it's bright blue with the blues brothers painted on the outside! This was to be our home for 2 weeks!
Our First stop was Ballarat, an old gold mining town, where we stayed in a campsite by lake learmonth. it wasn't until we arrived that we saw there was no lake it had dried up ten years ago. the place had such an eerie feel to it! Saturday we went to Sovereign hill, which was awesome. Its a replica town of how it used to be, like a very hands on museum. Jess had a go panning for gold. I decided as i'd already done it before (and the ground was main of the dirty) that I wouldn't be partaking in that venture! We tested our handwriting in the olden day school, had a trip down the mines, I almost got my shoulder bitten off by the cutest white donkey, and tried some olden day freshly made candy. upon other things!
Sunday we went to Geelong, the jump off point for the Ocean Road, we had a litle lunch there and got some last minute supplies, like can opener, knife etc. Our van is not very well kitted out! We are being very inventive cooking with one hob, one pan, and one frying pan! Luckily some places have bbqs and stuff! We stayed that night in Jan Juc just outside Torquay after having the fear that we wouldnt be able to find anywhere! It's like having sleepovers in the campervan all three of us squished in there. Having lots of fun at the moment, am quite impressed with myself having never camped before next to seasoned campers like jess and charlotte! Charlotte has taught me so many card games i'm struggling to remember them all. We was playing poker the other day, (with some toy money we brought) and Iwas making some big bets absolutely convinced I'd won, unfortunately I was not aware of the fact you couldn't have straight AND a pair?!So I lost big time lol.
Monday we went down the beach in Torquay, an I seem to have lost my memory a bit for Monday but I can tell you we stayed Just outside of Lorne in a campsite in a Valley. Yesterday (Tuesday) we went for some breakfast in the Wye River, and saw wild Koalas in the Kennet river! they are so cute! it was so cool! we came down to apollo Bay, via some amazing scenery. it really is stunning out there the beach's are crazy. And there's just no one out there most of the time! We found a really nice campsite with a outdoor heated pool and then headed off to the beach. Well I did anyway, Jess sat in the shade and Charlotte spent so long in the water i actually thought she'd drowned!
Today is going to hit 40 degrees!! I'm getting so brown! we are going to Mariners falls today and maits rest which is a rainforest with a thirty minute circular walk. Not really sure where we'll be tonight haven't decided! We all have special jobs, Jess is in charge of accounts and bug removal, Charlotte is in charge of entertainment and cuisine, and I'm in charge of the car radio, and accomodation! I'm not allowed to drive either as I didn't come with them to pick up the van so couldn't sign the contract. Probally a blessing in disguise! Especially as our hand brake is fcuk ed. We have spoken to some other wicked campers and they all have problems. Charlotte is writing them a very strong worded email :) ! Especially as we rang them to complain about the handbrake and the lady told us to avoid hills! Can you imagine?!
Anyways...........having a brilliant time wish oyu could all be enjoying the sunshine with us xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
