Friday was spent on the island of Bonaire. The least developed of the three ABC-islands. The first part of the day was spent waalking around Kralendijk, the capital. It was a small town, and easy to walk through. There were some booths with different hand made stuff, aimed at tourists, and also touristy shops. Not much else. I bought a nice sign to hang up on my wall, and a necklace.
After walking through town, we went to a nearby beach, where I rented some snorkelling-gear. Bonaire is known for having some of the best diving and snorkelling in the world, so I had to give it a try. I love snorkelling, and for the first time in my life, I found a mask that didn't leak! It is such a nice feeling to just float around, looking at whatt is happening below. I wasn't too impressed with what I actually saw though, maybe I was at a bad place, I don't know, but I did see some different colourful fish, and some parts of shipwrecks.
After a quick lunch, it was time for a tour. We had actually booked through the cruise line, even though I am generally against that, and this was my first time ever booking through the company I travel with. Needless to say, it was a rip-off, and quite a s***ty tour actually. I got so disappointed, I sent them a complaint letter! The tour even lasted an hour less than what it said, very unprofessional!
I had been told that the tour went all over the island, but it only went through the south part. There was actually not that much to see, we just drove through desert with cactuses for a very long time, then stopped at a wonderful beach, and the water was so nice and warm. The water here is perfection, I will give them that! Along the way, we saw some flamingoes, that was pretty cool. We also stopped at some slave huts, where the slaves lived when they were brought over here from Africa.
All in all, there was not too much to see on this island, it is completely flat, and there are just cactuses everywhere. I am still glad I have seen what there is here though, I think what Bonaire has to offer is in the wonderful turqoise-coloured warm water. I wish I could stay in that water forever!
Excited about tomorrow, Curacao next! I have always wanted to go there. I don't know why, I just always thought it sounded so cool!
