I am back out on the road again. It has been a quiet year of travelling, but I needed to get away from the horrible autumn weather, as I always do. This time, I have ended up in Florida. This is the first time I have been here, except for New York and Washington D.C. A year ago, I have only been to the west coast of USA.
It was a long trip to get here, travelling for 24 hours straight is pretty boring, and tiring! We just about made our flight from London to New York, as we only had an hour and a half between flights. I think we actually were the last ones to board the plane!
We arrived here in Fort Lauderdale 9pm on Saturday night, and just headed straight for our motel, and went to sleep. Yesterday, we walked around, seeing what the city has to offer. Which isn't a lot, really.. It is ok, but there is nothing special here. We walked down to the beach, and had breakast in the sun. Then the rain came, and we walked all the way down the main street, Las Olas. A little bit disappointed that this street wasn't as interesting as the guidebook made it out to be. At the very end of the street, we got into a water taxi back up again. Fort Lauderdale is called «the Venice of America», and I guess I can see why. It was nice to see the city from the water. We spent about an hour in the boat before hopping off at a stop by a big mall. Had lunch and a look around, but don't want to buy too much just yet. Saving the shopping for Miami! As we were both still a little bit jetlagged, it was a quiet and early evening last night. Dinner, then bed.
Now, we are about to check out from this motel, and go to the cruise port, to check in on the ship!
I am very excited, as the ship seems quite luxurious, and the fact that I hae never been on anything like that before. A cruise holiday is something completely new for me. It will be nice to unpack everything, and to know we will live there for the next 11 nights, but still see a new country almost every day! Won't have much internet on the ship, but will hopefully try to get some updates done!
Ship Ahoy!
